I own a Beo and love it!! It will kill anything it hits. The only down fall is that the ammo is pretty steep.....unless you load your own. I have the 26" barrel model with railed gas block. I use a M-68 Reflex fire sight. So awesome.

It's cool but in a SHTF senario, 2-3X more 5.56 could be carried on a person. The object is to send more lead toward the BG than he slings at you.

The .50 Beowulf really feels like a 12ga slug. Its neat but IMO a shotgun is a cheaper way to get a similar effect and I can't think of anything you'd use it for that couldn't be done just as well with slug loads.

Yeah, but the range on a slug is nothing compared to a 50cal.

I've got one, got the upper at a gun show for my AR-15 last year. They were about half the price then as they are now.

Its a hefty bullet but its no where near a .50 BMG.

Another Big Bore AR-15 that is worth considering is the .458 SOCOM. It has quite a bit of versatility as to bullet weights available. Here is the website for the gentleman who invented the cartridge.
    http://www.teppojutsu.com/

I have an AR upper built by him, and it is very badass. It looks like a bull barrel .223 Ar-15, until you see the hole in the end of the barrel.

    this

plus i prefer the idea of "short range" guns

sure...sniping someone a mile away sounds cool and all...but when the F do you ever think you'll have the ability and opportunity to do such?

i prefer putting my money in guns that are going to protect me NOW as opposed to during the what if
