Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
Basic maintenance is the best mod to do first with a new truck for sure.

OEM ball joints or are there better more reliable aftermarket ones?

If you’re talking about building an actual prerunner OP and not just a truck that is a prerunner in name, then 2wd will save a lot of money and work just fine.

    Check this out.

Don’t waste your money on things like fiberglass, focus first on a quality front LT kit or at least quality front shocks and a spring under kit / parts from Deaver and source various parts from Total Chaos etc. But start with new lower ball joints for sure.

Rebuilding seats with leather from furniture and extra padding. Might put leather on the dash and other interior parts.
I put sound deadening stick-on stuff in my doors. Clean and lube inside door. Added pop rivets to tabs on window guide channel where spot-welded.

    Delete the LPSV.
    Good seats.
    Under body armor.
    Really good suspension.

This is my friend's truck where he only tied the rod from the LSPV up to its highest point with safety wire and cut it off at like 3" and the truck brakes fine and performs great. That said there's no one way to do it (for instance I'm remaking all braided and hard lines so I'll be using a manual proportioning valve in that regard). Prioritize suspension imo

FYI maintenance is not a mod.

    4wd swap, front/rear lockers > everything else

The Total Chaos uniball conversion kit is a lot stronger.

If he wants to build a prerunner you are really not helping... poor guy's going to not know what to do and end up burning his truck to the ground when he puts the wrong windshield wipers on his truck at Oreilly's.

@01stgentaco are you trying to build a desert prerunner or you just want to build a truck that is a Tacoma Prerunner for general offroading - it can be confusing if you're not 100% clarifying what you're building here. People will misinterpret and it won't help you.
