ah man thanks i bet it a cool old truck. i personally think the 22re is the best engine toyota has ever made hands down.

and the removable top and the ease of swapping in a solid axle on the later 80's version is sweet. that steering set-up is already in place man i would love to buy one some day and go at it the right way. that rig is my holy grail of 4x4's lol

i saw that thread and it worked but, everyone that had any sense like mjp, jlee, supratt and many others had serious concerns about the quality of the work and the parts used to completel the build. its a huge stretch to think that you could do this for 5k to a 1st or 2nd gen toyota tacoma.

I have heard its the bare minimum cost. Usually more around 7-9k i believe depending on if your getting junk yard parts or new ect.

    LT FTW!

i just remember jlee offering to drive to him and fix those welds they didn't look very good he thought they actually might be dangerous. this is what goes on when you chop and weld your frame unless your really good at welding i wouldn't even mess with it.

not to mention that the parts he used where all junk yard quality and gave him more headaches than they where worth. these can be great daily drivers you just have to sort it out when your getting your kit together.

i tend to think of this as a tattoo you wouldn't go into a tattoo place and have in mind your only going to spend 300 dollars for a whole back piece. and chances are even if you could pull it off its probably going to look like shit lol

this thread got so far off the ops's original topic it hilarious

    yeah lol

if he has to have a drop bracket lift i'd say fabtech they make nice db lifts from what i understand but, like the others i would say skip it and do a 3 inch. lower center of gravity, more ground clearance and for the cost of an installed fabtech 6 inch kit you could go get a very respectable suspension lift.

Well in my opinion, i like how the drop bracket lifts look, but DONT take the fabtech offroad alot or it will fall apart.. The same guy that i was talking about that did the axle swap for cheap on his tacoma had the fabtech db before and it fell off the truck when he was leaving his driveway...Imagine that happening on the highway or interstate.

yeah thats a major down side of those types of lifts you have to cut out the factory cros member the install the bracket that just doesn't jive with me. then the bracket hangs much lower than a 3 inch. so your raising the trucks center of gravity x2 and losing ground clearance. literally the only positive thing is the fact that the cv's are kept at a more normal angle and if your into it the "look"

all asshatery aside thats why most guys have such an aversion to them.

Yep, i agree. When i see other tacomas, i almost always see the 3" suspension.. Its pretty rare when i see the drop bracket lift on any tacomas. When i see trucks with the fabtech i hope they dont wheel alot.

Basically - when i decided not to do the drop bracket lift (Because i should pay off my truck before spending that kinda money). I got a full price quote on what it would cost to completely SAS my rig with ZERO man hours cost.
It was between 5-6K....:eek: For that price i could buy an 85" and rock that hunk of junk

yep, bouncy bouncy bouncy go the 6" lifts. caca, pooopo, crapola. If you want to compensate for something, you should of bought a full size chevy and put a 12" lift on it w/ 40's
