I'm looking to upgrade my rearview mirror to one with compass, temp, darkening, etc.. The only one I'm aware of is Gentex.
    Anyone else using something else?

The 2009 Tacoma is supposed to have the option of a rear view mirror with integrated backup camera. I'm holding out to see if this will be made available for purchase aftermarket.

Gentex is the best. I have one and love it.

It's kinda odd that there's only really one company that makes these, but if all of the OE fancy mirrors are Gentex (GM, Toyo, Ford, etc) they can't be that bad. I love my mirror. I bought a homelink auto-dimming one from eBay that came from a Nissan Maxima... connected right up, no problem! They seem to be pretty well built.

    I'm also upgrading to a Gentex mirror : K21 w/ compass & temp.
I have one question though, do I use the same OEM windshield mount or do I have to remove it and use one from Gentex ?

You probably can just use it as-is on your Taco's windshield mount... Toyota uses the same generic mount used by a lot of other car brands. If you're buying it used you just need to double-check that it comes with the right one. I just popped the stock mirror off and the Gentex right on, took 15 seconds. The wiring took another 30 min or so as I needed constant power for the Homelink feature and switched for the auto-dimming.

If anyone wants a Toyota OE (Gentex) auto-dimming mirror (without compass or temp) I've got one to sell now. :)

    How much for the mirror?

I bought the Gentex 51a. Had a custom installer put it in. Homelink, auto-dimming,compass temp. Have had it in now for a couple of weeks. Works great!
