I had the same worry as you, so I ended up ordering the wings from Talon and added those to cover that part up.

They are stealing them off 3rd Gens too. I have a tenant that works in the garage at a Toyota dealership...he says he hears people driving up everyday. Tacomas & Tundras. And their lot is full of them waiting to be repaired because all the cats are on back order.
I have Cat Security on my 2nd Gen. I don't think it matters which one you get. I would think the plate ones are better than those universal cable ones. I have yet to see a post of someone who had any Cat theft prevention device that had been circumvented and lost their catalytic converters. I am not going to say it cant be done...thieves will take one look and move on to something easier. Even if someone has the security screw, it will still take over an hour to remove the bolts, because you have to hold the top nut and it is a huge pain because it is a tight and tiny space. Just get one and put your mind at ease

Before everyone goes freaking out about cat thefts on Tacoma's, I'd call your local PD or SO to see what the most common vehicle cat thefts are in your area.

In the Denver Metro area, Hyundai's, Kia's, Honda's, and hybrid vehicles (Prius) are at the top of the list. Typically SUV's models since it's easier to cut the cat's out.

I have taken probably 50 reports of cat thefts this year, no Tacoma's. Goes the same for the rest of my team who are probably about the same numbers.

Most off-road skid plates will deter thieves enough. They are looking for easy snags. Why waste 5 minutes on a Tacoma cat when they can cut one out of a Honda Pilot in 30 seconds.

Just my two cents (As someone who works in a field that has the crime stats available and takes the theft reports)

Lol, the backlash you can get for offering an informed opinion now a days.

I didn't tell you to not buy a skid plate or not protect your converters. Just to do your research

Definitely check your area. My guys commonly take reports from Tacomas and Tundras of all generations. Even a coworker had hers stolen from her 3rd gen Tacoma. I work for a midsized city.

Just goes to show different areas have different stuff. My county is one of the largest, square miles wise, in the state. We hardly have any.

This answers the question of why someone posted they had Zero Tacoma catalytic converter thefts in Littleton CO. He really wasn't lying or providing bad info: if you ignore the problem, it never happpened.

    https://www.denver7.com/news/invest...er-thefts-continue-to-rise-frustration-mounts

"But what Jones found nearly as frustrating was what he felt was a lack of response from the Littleton Police Department.
Jones filed a report and sent the video to police, but he says he hasn’t heard anything from the department. "They just don’t care,” he said. “This is not a crime that they care about."

Lol at the length you are trying to go to bash my opinion, Littleton is just one small incorporated city in the Denver, Metro area, and I don't even work for there. I would do more research if I were you, before you try to bash a place or profession you are not associated with. I'll be the adult here and just stop replying after this.

Got the 304 stainless here. Here in CA they will steal anything. Fingers crossed this will do the trick! Toyota dealer reports a 6 month wait to get new catalytics if they are stolen.

Got this on the other day. Fit was good. Now the wife’s Prius has one and so does my Tacoma. My 86 pickup doesn’t have a cat so nothing to loose there. Hope they leave us alone with those on.

I've seen 6 months here, mostly Tundras.

Gas tanks are getting drilled more frequently now as well. The plastic tanks make it way too easy.

Ordered my stainless MillerCat shield Sunday and it is scheduled for delivery today. I will install it in the next couple of days and I am already dreading the installation of the front four screws.
