Best Coil Pack and Spark Plug Setup?

I have a 2007 Tacoma V6 TRD Off-Road and the truck is due for a replacement/upgrade. I read that the best spark plugs are NGK Iridium - 6619 and NGK COP - U5090. Anyone have know of a better setup?

 

Denso plugs and OE Coils is my recommendation.

Believe it or not, Ozzie, oh yeah, most of the time OEM is equivalent, or even better for replacement parts
Like the Toyota OEM oil filter if you check in the forms, it has like 25% better filtration, than the best filter on the market

 

I guess I should explain why I recommend the above parts.
The Denso plugs have had a better track record than the Denso. (But not by much)

And there’s no way I’d spend money on anything other than OE coils. Not with the quality issues todays.
Ask any Tech at an independent shop what they recommend. I bet 90% will tell you to avoid generic or parts store parts. The other 10% either don’t care about your vehicle, or are too new to wrenching to know better.

 

How about RIPP coils?

Best for what? Performance, long life? In general copper is best for performance and iridium for long life. Platinum is in between. Within each type, the performance differences are negligible for normal driving imo. I buy for plug life and prefer Denso Long Life.

Many utuber’s use commercially available spark plug testers (average $30 on Amazon) and conclude a plug superior based on spark color and size. That is not very convincing to me. Project Farm does actual engine testing but his product selection was limited to four copper plugs and one iridium. But he shows Pulstar and E3 plugs did slightly better than both NGK’s in MPG.

 

I am looking for long life performance. The truck has hit 200K miles so I would like to buy parts that will last at least another 50-70k miles more.

 

If I told you the OE Denso plugs have been known to go well over 100k, would you believe me?

And NO, I’m not saying to go that long on them.
If you plan to go 100k just get iridium plugs. But a few have reported issues using them. (A very few)
Good thing is, the 4.0 isn’t bad to change them, so it’s not a big deal if issues arise.

 

Why are you wanting to replace the coils anyway?
Toyota coils are not a high failure item.
I'd say replace coil boots as needed and coils when they go bad, for the least chance of issues use Denso K20HR-U11 or

$10 NGK LFR6C11 NGK (7787) LFR6C-11 V-Power Spark Plug, Pack of 1

NGK LFR6C11 plugs, SMP or NGK coil boots, and Denso coils.

Also if there's oil in the spark plug tubes you will need valve cover gaskets.

All parts are available on Rock Auto at a good price.

 

My thought was if I am changing the spark plus, I might as well look into changing the coil packs just as a tune up bundle.

 

Oem, oem.

Since swapping plugs is extremely easy on the 4.0, no need to go with iridium’s. Some setups, it’s a major hassle to get at the plugs, then yes to iridium’s.

 

So it seems as Denso or NGK iridium spark plugs are best.

 

Just don’t make the same mistake I did, ordered them on Amazon, got counterfeit plugs.

483,000 miles and still on the original coils. and just stick with the OEM Denso plugs, don't over think it

 

I went with NGK 94122 LFR6AHX-S Ruthenium HX Plug from RockAuto. Couldn't pass the price they have on them.

curious what the part number is on the oem denso coil? truck threw misfire code, switched two coils and code followed change so seems that is all it it. also, is it bad form to just replace the bad one?
