Low recoil, flat ballistic curve at long range, high ammo capacity... However, the civilian-legal 5.7 mm ammo is unproven. The tumbling properties of the 5.56x45mm rifle cartridge are not necessarily retained at the much slower pistol velocities.

This was kinda what I was thinking- Except mine was more along the lines of "WTF-They make 5.7 for handguns??"

The manual safety is a turn off for me as well. And the price.

I'm a huge glock fan. I have a few. Glock is the best value available for under $550 hands down.

If you feel you need a handgun like that why not just solve the issue and buy a Smith .500?? At least you know it will massacre whatever you shoot.

The Five-seveN is single-action-only, so it needs to be carried cocked-and-locked like a 1911 to get any kind of "readiness". Therefore the external safety is necessary. Glock is the way to go. For the price of a Five-seveN you can get a Trijicon RMR mounted on your Glock...

I have to agree, for the price you can't bet a Glock. I have a 17 that I have had for years. I have thought about selling it a couple of times but I just can't. I have shot and currently own better shooting guns but for the price and durability you won't beat a Glock.

Yeah...I get that it needs to be carried "at the ready." I'll take my DAO SiG P250-One less step to worry about when it matters.

I have owned and used virtually every handgun configuration imaginable. I love guns. However,I do not like any polymer gun (personal preference). I went through a huge 1911 phase for a while (still love them) but am a die hard wheel gun guy now. My fav is my 627-5 (8 shot 357). It shoots better than any handgun I have ever owned. I also have the same gun in a 2" barrel that is superb for carry and it shoots .75" at 15 yards if I do my part. Find what you like and stick with it.

    New Sig P290 Sub-Compact 9mm

Sig Sauer has unveiled their newest pistol: the Sig P290. It is significant (excuse the pun) because it is a whole new platform. The first P290 that will be available is chambered in 9mm Luger/Parabellum but I fully expect to see it chambered in other cartridges late next year.

One notable feature is that the side grip panels are removable. Sig plan on offering a range of aluminum, wood, and polymer grips that they will engrave with your initials, if you so wish.

A laser sight that fits in front of the trigger guard will also be offered (see below photo).
