Josh's BS opinion. The best weapon is the one you have in your hand at the moment you need it. That being said, I love my S&W M&P 9mm, HK P30, and Sig226. This debate is along the JEEP/Toyota line, everyone is differrent, and has markedly different tastes in what they want. My only advice is get something that will handle what you'll put it through, be it plinking with the girl on the weekends or an everyday carry. THe FiveSeven is a neat idea, but the overpenetration is a cause for concern with me. Do you really need a round that will punch through kevlar at 200m? ( there are perfectly justifiable scenarios for this) just think about if you have to engage a threat and what you want your rounds to do.

Right now, I am sold on my M&P, threaded barrel and phantom holster to follow. maybe an AAC to go with it....

I personally love the H&K usp compact in 40S&W, Sig 226 in 9MM, and S&W 340PD. But to each there own.

boy, i sure would like a pistol... but getting one in NJ would take 3 months or more...
I would need a gun permit and a permit per pistol. Ridiculous!! Also... 2 of my friends would need to write a letter saying that I am a respondsable person to the state and my work would need one also... they need A WORK LETTER??? My friend did this and got a gun! Unreal!!

I have a old custom built 1911 (given to me by my grandfather) and a CZ-75B chambered in 40. cal..and the ugly ass CZ is the best of the two. It never jams, accurate and the 40. cal recoil isn't bad either.

Sorry, 5.7 is amazing. Virtually no drop, and why would you compare a 5.7 to a 500 mag?? LOL

This is the best offensive pistol I've played with. You can get these for 900 new, and they are American made which I would pay the extra cost for USA products. Thats just me. They also have a 45 tactical that is really nice as well but is 900 as well.

I almost went with the sig 226 but the FNH felt better as well as lighter and the recoil difference is amazing also I chose American instead :)

Love my XDM .40. A bit large for conceal carry, but great for under the bed. Well balanced and very accurate if I remember the funamentals!

Wrong, Glock is not all that people think it is. Springfield XD make better pistols than the Glock and Sig is some of the top of the line. Glock is average.

H&K make nice pistols but you are paying 850+ for the USP. In my opinion I would rather take the American made tactical 45 over the USP any day. I always keep in the back of my mind when buying any product, where is it made.

IMO from experience. Also the 1911's are always nice :)

The 27 has always been a flagship for the SW line, just under the 29. And no matter how many manufacturers try their hand at wheelguns, Colt and Smith will be the standard others are judged by. In fact, I can't think of a single new revolver that is not a plagiarized version of their guns.
My old Mod 28, built in 1970, still shoots better than most of my 1911s.

not trying to argumenative, but to say that 1911's are better than Glock, HK, or Sig is a very general statement considering that there are like 50 brands spanning 100 years of manufacture :(

I really like my Beretta USA .40 cal Stainless Brigadier.
A real accurate easy to maintain pistol. A little expensive though.

I've fired the 5-7 and felt it was overrated. It's a formidable caliber in it's own right, but not one I would choose. Too each his own.

I think the FN is a good weapon, but I dont know about how affective it would be in self defense situations. Being as the muzzel energy is just a bit more than a .22 mag, and a small hole, I doubt it will have a "1 shot" stopping efficiency near that of even a 9mm.

I thought that the FN was made in Belgium, pretty sure they are, and the Springfield XDs are made in Croatia. Sig does make some nice guns, although alot of forums claim newer guns have lost quailty, using MIM parts. But I will take a look at that new subcompact posted above, replacing my EDC LCP.

I agree the 5.7 is great! Just get the P90 to match or get a P90 style upper for your AR and you'll be set.

I don't think its fair to compare larger caliber pistols to this gun because thats about like comparing apples to oranges...IMHO
