    Just wanted to quote this.....

    Dead-nuts on the mark.

Castrol or Pennzoil regular old "bought at the Stop & Rob" 5w30 changed every 5,000 is a "better" oil than a $10/qt custom made Group-25 unobtanium-infused synthetic that is left in for 25,000.

Change it often and your engine will thank you.
Change it often with Mobil-1 or Amsoil and your engine just MIGHT last another 100,000 or so... if you intend to keep your Tacoma that long.

I've seen so many of the best looking used oil analysis wear metal numbers with Valvoline full synthetic or OEM, and I think a close second would be Pennzoil or Castrol synthetics. I run Valvoline Synpower or the Toyota OEM oil.

Whatever is on sale. As long as it has the API starburst logo you're good to go.

A buddy of mine did a ton of reasearch regarding the detergents, metal make up, wear, and longevity of oils and although Mobil 1 did great, the real winner was ROTELLA T6.. It's a synthetic motor oil made by shell and only sold at shell stations of wal mart for about $21-$26 for a 5 quart jug.

A lot of friends run them in turbo trucks, subarus, and race bikes too... I used it and it's cheater than mobil 1, and the taco seems to like it.. I use the Mobil 1 extended performance filter and Rotella T6.. The taco can go 8,000 miles and still have good looking oil.

AFAIK T6 only comes in a 5w-40 or 15w-40... I'm sure you can run it but it's not 5w-30, which is what Toyota specs.

I just like opening a quart of fresh oil in the morning.

Time for work tomorrow. This goes well with home brewed beer, or your favorite drink, I won't judge.

I am a Amsoil Dealer and that would set you set you back around a good $350. I got a OK price for it. :D

I found some interesting things when I changed it all. First I found it had Denso's on the 1-3 bank and NGK's on the 4-6 bank. The truck was at 60K and still had the F-ing factory plugs. Also the diff chirped occasionally and found it had some red oil inside. Talk about a rip off, this is a Toyota Certified Used vehicle. Also found out that someone put regular PS fluid, not ATF for the PS.

Changed it all, the truck runs smoother, shifts better and does not chirp at all. I call that good.

It actually comes in 1 gallon jugs (4qt) NOT 5qt jugs... Making it the same price as pretty much every other synth oil. Don't get me wrong.... Good stuff, I use it in my bikes. But no cost savings

that was Mobil Clean 7500 5w30
and i ran that kind of oil till 25495. then switched to Pennzoil Platinum for the next 50,000 miles and finally to Pennzoil Ultra from 74819 till i sold it last week. at 101,500

    steve

i have run both 5w30 and 5w20. with 5w20 the vvt kicks in a little easier so you kinda have to watch the right foot a little bit.

you may not have, but other things can be observed.

like if you have a headgasket leak and coolant is in the oil.
