I use a decent brand of dino oil blended for diesel engines. It contains the zinc and moly that has been removed from most automotive oils. Just change your oil every 3 to 4 thousand miles, and stick with Toyota filters, and you can't go wrong.

I have been running Mobil 1 synthetic & I'm happy with it, thought about switching to Amsoil synthetic but like others have said Mobil 1 is readily available & has treated me well so I think I'll stick with it.

I use Wix, its a quality filter and available down the street from my house at the local Orielly auto. But most use the factory filter. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-tacomas/149488-best-oil-filter.html

My buddy uses Royal Purple. He was trying to convince me to use it. I told him, "because you use it in your Ranger, doesn't mean I have to use it in my Tacoma". After so long he finally quit bugging me about it. He also tried to convince me to put a K&N filter on my truck. I told him time and time again and he would tell me it would give me more hp, better gas mileage, blah, blah, blah! I told him that I am going to believe the dozens of people who own Tacomas(here at TW) then someone who's never owned a Tacoma. Just because it worked in his truck, doesn't mean it was going to work on mine.:)

It will work just as well in your Tacoma as it does in his Ranger.
The K&N air filter will allow just as much additional dirt to contaminate your engine, and Royal Purple will continue to work just as well as Castrol GTX.
The K&N oil filter will work just as well as the OEM filter that costs 1/3rd.

And neither product is improving his power or MPG.

Yeah! I don't know if it was helping him or not. I guess it's something that he's always used. I had no information to say that it did or didn't help him. I didn't really care enough to go and look. What works for him is fine. What works for me is fine. I value his opinion, just like I do the members here. But if I can get the same quality out of an oil(oil filter) and pay less for it then that's what I am going to do.

25 years ago I would have told you that Fram filters were awesome.

The last time I used a Fram anything was on my 88 Honda Accord in the air filter. Over 10 years ago. I wouldn't touch them now.

You could have told me that 25 years ago. Unless it had something to do with my Hot Wheels or me being in Kindergarten, I wouldn't have any idea what you'd be talking about lol.

I don't have a problem with their air filters. They use a silicon frame/seal and the media is decent quality.

Their oil filters have been shit ever since Allied Signal took over.

Are they that much cheaper than OEM? Oil or air filter?

Oil? Close You can buy OEM for $4 each if you are willing to buy 10 at a time. Fram can be found for just under $4.

Air filters might be a couple of bucks cheaper, but seriously... OEM is like $18 once every year (two or three if you don't go off road).
There's no reason not to buy OEM on either filter.

Oh, I'll pay for the OEM stuff. It's proven to work without any issues. Where in the hell do you get $4.00 per filter? Is that oil or air?

Works out to $4.40 each with shipping buying from Titus-Will if you buy 20 ($88), but there's an eBay vendor who offers a lot of 10 and if you "Make Offer" at $40 he'll take it.

Air filters, I buy either locally, or if I think of it, when I buy another item from Camelback or Titus-Will.
