Canada. South central, not too much snow, and much less in 10 years with climate change. Your money will go a long way.

Lot's of space, water, hunting, fishing, fresh air, and generally laid back people if you stay away from the city-ots.

We haven't built that wall yet.

Do Americans have to hire a "coyote" to cross to Canada?

So I need to map out a road trip to the PNW. From NY
Will be camping with Two dogs and the wife. What sites should I not pass up?
Won't be going till next spring.

Its good to dream. But lots will change in the next 10 years. Neither current presidential candidate will be president, even if they win a second term. But who knows what havoc they will have wrought?

Look for a state w/no state income tax. Then pick your climate from those.

While looking, keep in mind ease of proximity to high quality medical care. If you like to travel, an international airport is handy.

I wouldn't fret too much for another 8 years or so. Things in the world, and your life, will change. Just keep socking away cash, work to stay healthy and enjoy the moment.

Ever been to the mammoth lakes area? That would be where I would go as long as I could afford it.

Sage advice. Oregon checks a lot off the list but they have state income tax.

I know this first hand. When I was 21 I bought what I thought was going to be my retirement property. I paid 38k for it in 1984. It was on the water and a tidal surge destroyed the whole town
It took 10 years for the property value to come back up.
I still wanted to live on the water and bought a beach front home in NY
    Hurricane Sandy destroyed this house
Thankfully I got married before that storm and my wife owned a home too
We are re building the beach house and the new house is gonna be elevated and no wolf is gonna blow it down.
Problem is it's too small with my now two step daughters. So I will rent it out for now.
So that's why a lake and not an ocean for me now

I grew up in Mexico Beach, FL
It is the best kept secret. Just go vacation there for a week and you can decide if you would like to retire there.
I prob will end up back there when I retire honestly.

Speaking of Mexico... If I was to retire out of country, there are a gabillion places in Baja I would dig on a long term basis.

If you don't mind 5 mo's of winter, I would say to put N. Wi or the U.P. of Mi on the list, lots of places for hunting, fishing, camping, (dog friendly). Land is relatively cheap and the people are pretty laid back, as far as the scuba thing lake superior & lake michagan are not that far away with lots of wrecks to dive. Google Nicolet national forest to get an idea of N. Wi, atv, utv 4wd friendly with remote campsites if that's what your looking for. Lots of lakes that might(?) have land for sale, so you could fish from your own dock.
