    Hey TW-long time.
I am looking for some advice on what are the best methods and tips to properly care for my 2001 Tacoma now that it is driven maybe once every 2-3 weeks.
I bought a 2016 Lexus RX350 and that is now the main cruiser. I intend to keep my Tacoma because it's such a great truck that has been so good to me. It's tucked away in my gal's garage (she has one of those tandem type garages) and I have it hooked to a Battery Tender. It is a nice warm steady climate in there so no worries with temperature extremes.
So at what point do I need to start adding fuel stabilizer if at all? Also is it ok for the tires to be sitting in one spot for that long? If you all could impart to me stuff like that it'd be great. Thanks for any help:)

Honestly if you just make it a point to take her for a Sunday spin once or twice a week she'll be fine

eon that is a good idea and likely what I need to do. Been having such a good time with the new one though, that I have sort of been neglecting the Tacoma:( but it's only been a couple months so far. I really should switch out between the two once in a while.

I'd like to hear how to go for a Sunday spin more than once a week. Around here, we only get one Sunday per week. California is even better than I thought.

Don't worry about it but keep the battery tender on it. My '98 that I bought in '98 only has 100k which it just turned earlier this year so it has sat for
most of it's life and I have not had any problems with it. Just show it some love from time to time.

Mine has 127k and has sat for the better part of the last year and everything is just fine. Don't worry too much about it, just show her some love.

Agreed, I only drive my 1st gen once every couple weeks. It mostly just sits in the barn at my cabin up north.

Just keep the battery tender on it, make sure it's parked on a concrete floor, or some place it's not going to rust, and take it for a spin once in a while.

Hey I thought this thread was in the can after the first reply-thanks for the responses! I knew there were guys out here who are in the same situation and the posts are reassuring. Very good advice. So that fuel stabilizer crap isn't a thing then right? I suppose that's for the ones that are put away for years. x100 on the showing it love-you bet! That's why I kept her-she's been nothing but good to me and my family without a peep of trouble ever. It'll take quite a while for the new one to live up to her reputation.
Here she is IN FRONT of the new one

That's one clean truck!! I just got the rising sun done on my hood. Not perfect but I got a low spot filled in the process. I was mainly getting rid of rock chips and doing rust prevention. received_1013096885444353_f1ebd65e1c989e02fbf468c3582ead5e6a2cb2d0.jpg received_1011801292240579_f8727d92086e0454d03ba1af82ca1b08ccf4834e.jpg IMG_20160518_081736983_ef626f672bc417c401636957a7449ec1c68d5821.jpg few weeks ago

My Tacoma gets driven maybe once every 2-3 weeks also. I do nothing special for it. It fires up and runs like a champ every time. No issues.

I do run Sta-Bil in my sports car and BMW motorcycle because they sit much longer without moving.

If it's like a boat or sports car that sits all winter without so much as a start-up, rin Sta-Bil.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Short term storage like that I wouldn't worry about stabilizers or the tires. It's still getting used often enough not to worry about those things.

Hey thanks for the comment-I saved a long time and because of the Taco's unfailing reliability, I am able to own one. I got one because of Lexus' top reliability record-if you're gonna get something get the best Mom always said:) I figure on keeping the RX a long long time too!
Thanks for adding to that sentiment-for sure I am feeling good about my Tacoma after all these posts saying so.

Im going to fire the Tacoma up and bring it out Friday because Saturday me and my honey are gonna go to a "citywide garage sale"-something we like to do around here. So she'll be getting a good day-long cruise in:)
