I just purchased a used bed rug and need to buy 3M Velcro to install it. Do you guys have any recommendations? PFA.

I’m currently using this on my pillar to hold my snorkel and no issues so far.

I haven't had much luck with velcro stick on backing. Dust & dirt works it's way under the strip and into the glue. Heat, as in a sun baked parking lot, doesn't help.

I've taken to using the stick on just to hold the velcro in place and then run a guesstimated thin bead of silicone around the edge of the velcro strip to hold in place. Has worked well so far.

My most ambitious project, which used double sided 3M glue tape, is a flexible solar panel. I used the tape to attach the panel to a piece of coroplast. Then I used the tape between the coroplast and fiberglass cap on my Tacoma. I then used a liberal amount of silicone around the edge of the panel onto the cap.

2 years later and other than the silicone looking like a bad cake frosting it's showing no signs of separating.

I moved a bed rug from one truck to another - contacted Truck Hero???? The supplier, explained what I wanted to do and they sent me the velcro strip they supply with the bed rug - the part that goes on the bed.

I’ve had good luck with the Velcro Extreme Outdoor tape.

Over the years I have tried many different peel and stick adhesives on the composite bed. None of them ever lasted longer than a year. The plastic is almost as bad as some polyurethanes - it's just too "greasy" to take an adhesive.

Your better approach would be to take a high traction grip and attach it to the back end of your bed rug. If you want something semipermanent, install six rivnuts into the bed, aligned with grommets in the rug.

whatever Velcro was on the guys truck I bought my shell and bedrug was on there good. Prep may be a factor.

and product quality. Home Depot doesn’t always have the best stuff.

OP I would figure out what bedrug sells or recommends. I bet you they have a good one that works well and probably better than a random one at Home Depot.

Yeah they sell the kit but it's like $50. So I figured I could buy a big roll of something quality and achieve the same thing.

Bed Rug makes a kit that comes with Velcro and 3M prep packets. You can get it for $20 off Amazon. It’s what I used on my Tundra for adhering to the bedliner.

Does the used bed rug already have velcro on it?

Whatever you use, before you stick anything to your bed (SMC), rub the areas down really well with some acetone. The SMC material has a release agent mixed in with it (zinc stearate) to help with release. It blooms to the surface during the molding operation and continues to be a release agent pretty much throughout the material's life. Scrubbing the surface with some acetone will remove a lot of that from the surface and will act as an adhesion promoter.

I just purchased the 15 feet of 3M Velcro Heavy Duty and I got a bottle of the Adhesive Promoter. It came out to under $40. BedRug arrives Friday. Thanks Gents.
