Got this paint scuff on my front bumper last summer:

I have no idea how it happened but I know it wasn't my work. I was walking past the truck one day and it was just there. I figure someone tagged me in a parking lot and I just didn't notice for a few days.

Anyway, what's the best way to remove the scuff? It only seems to be paint transfer and doesn't go through my paint. I have a Porter Cable 7424 buffer that I haven't used since before I bought the Tacoma and it's been a while since waxed or buffed anything.

I'd like to do it right the first time so I don't have to keep trying different methods and eventually burn right through the paint. I'd prefer doing it by hand so I don't have to dig out the buffer and deal with that mess, but I'll take any suggestions.

I'd try Megs Ultimate Compound. Then clean it up with Ultimate Polish. I've heard great things about the Menzerna 400/3500 combo.

Do you have a DA or access to one. A polisher will make quick work of that. Is that paint transferred to the bumper or is the paint scratched?

Before you try rubbing and buffing, try WD-40 first. If it is just paint from the other car WD-40 will take it right off. I have used that on my vehicle and suggested it to friends about three times and it worked great in almost all cases.

If not, I agree with the suggestions above.

Holy shit the WD-40 worked! I guess you really do learn a new thing every day.

clay bar, buff, and polish. Heck you may just need to get the paint off. Might not be any scratching underneath.

How about a slightly deeper scuff mark? One where it is scratched right through the paint in a couple of spots? I have one in the same spot on the bumper, mine is self inflicted though :(

I have to go back with some polish or scratch remover because there are some light scratches where the paint transfer was. Luckily none of the scratches appear to go all the way through the paint.
