    Hello,

It used to be much worse. I went at it with a bottle of Goo gone and a credit card. Got like 80% of it off, but I’m having trouble getting the rest off. Any ideas?

    Acitone.

Get your wife to use her cosmologist licence and get the good stuff. The acitone from Lowe's isn't worth shit.

OMG NO, NO, NO. Acetone is a component of paint stripper. That’s why they put it in finger nail polish remover.

He should only use this if he plans on removing his paint job with the adhesive

OP. Do not use aggressive chemicals or anything like a credit card to scrape it up. You are going to jack up your paint job.

I would take a heat gun to it (be careful) and try to get that to loosen it up.
That may need to be polished out. A detailer may be able to buff off the excess and then polish out your credit card scrapes lol.
I’d probably use a microfiber pad and back out using progressively softer pads. If you have a polisher that may be the simplest solution.

Which one of these suggestions would you guys say is best and easiest while also not messing up the (already damaged) paint job? I believe acentone is def. a no go, but anything else that these guys suggest easy? I do not own a heat gun, but i can acquire the other stuff mentioned easily.

Yeah, I just removed the decal stripe all the way down the side of my 95. I had some 3M "Tar and Wax Remover" I use before painting. It took a little rubbing, but it helped get the glue to roll and ball up. Then, it would stick to the rag or I could just pinch grip it and pull the balls off.

I used the heat gun to initially get the decal off, but the leftover glue just kept smearing when I tried to heat it.

a rag with a bit of gas usually works great on glue/adhesive leftovers

I have no idea. I assumed it was used to keep the fender flares tightly sealed? The previous owner just sold it to me like this, so I have no idea what was on there before.

    Is this residue unusual?

Yes, I've never seen that. Should just be clean paint under the flares, no sealant between the paint & the weatherstrip on the flares either. No matter, at least you got it off. I was just curious.
