I bought some extra clamps like the ones that hold the sides down for the front. That Velcro is crap.

So if anyone is interested I contacted Bestop about the release of a 2016 version. Looks like they don't plan on making a modified top.

    Hello Sam,
Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately we are not aware of any plans to release a modified version for the Supertop for the 2016 Tacoma. We do have a couple options for a 2016 Tacoma, part number 76301-35 is for Reg/Extd/Double cab 6ft bed and the other part number 76308-35 is for the Double cab 4-Door 5ft bed.

    Thank you,

    make: Toyota
    model: Tacoma
    year: 2016
message: I see in your catalog that there only exists one model number for the tacoma that ranges from '05-'16 model years. I have a 2016 Tacoma and have seen on online forums that this version of your supertop does not fit the '16 well. Do you plan on releasing a modified version for the '16 tacoma or is this the only option

Just my .02 on the Supertop for Tacoma:

I have bought them for two gen 2 rc's. I loved them both, but that front seal was an issue. The self adhesive Velcro strip simply isn't up to the task. I ended up purchasing two more clamps from Bestop, slightly modifying them, adding a length of aluminum angle bar, and never had a problem after that.

I now have a 16, and am considering buying one for it, but can't get a straight answer on whether the dimensions on the box and cab have changed from the gen 2's. And since my 16 no longer has the front utility rail, I can't use a Bestop clamp to hold that front panel down (wtf Toyota?).

Anybody actually do some comparative measurements on the box/cab area?

I did the same thing with extra clamps and an aluminum bar. From what I have read, the second gen front rail bolts on to the third gen no problem and is fairly cheap.

@rooney2oons do you have a picture with the full side profile? I also have a 2016 DCSB in Silver, so I'm curious what the side profile looks like since i just ordered one.

I just ordered a Bestop from Auto Anything for about $550 shipped...which I had read this thread first. I listed 2016 Tacoma so I just assumed they had updated it for our models. I also have a Prinsu Design cabrack coming, so hopefully the extra height up front will flow nicely with the slightly higher Bestop.

Here's mine, along with another fun toy. The looks is growing on me, while practicality-wise I love it.

It stops right below the shark fin. The line should blend nicely once my Prinsu Cabrac gets in!

Thanks for the pics! I just installed a tonneau. I'm thinking of toggling between the two since I live in LA and need more security sometimes. Just need to get the process down!

    Gotcha, makes sense.

I was wondering if there were any locking tonneaus I could install that would work with the Bestop. I also have a Thule Roofbox from my Subaru, so I might even be able to get crossrails that would work with the Bestop to allow me to mount the roofbox in the bed when I need additional security. Hmmm...

Looking at how my soft-top is mounted on the rails, I think I might even be able to get something like the Voodoo Heavy Duty Cross bars to work.

It's the same as the one for the 2nd gen. I'll post more pics once the prinsu comes in, should look nice!

So all those interested in buying a Supertop for their new Tacomas: look at the amount of excess height above the top of the cab this top projects. This will be subject to drag at speed. I would not do it, as it will increase the chances of blow off. Especially since the factory front rail attachment method is a Velcro strip. Totally inadequate for the application. STTA!

Drove 160ish miles along I5 from Seattle to Bellingham yesterday. No issues. Like any canopy, I just check the clamps every once in a while.

I may add an additional clamp or two over the velcro but haven't felt the need yet, it's super solid. I highly doubt the additional inch is causing that much extra drag, but what do I know...
