    Greetings,

Recently joined TW and I've just purchased a new 2009 DC Offroad Taco and am loving it! This truck kicks arse! Have replaced the entire stereo system and the interior is done, at least for now ;) (kudos to Mr. Marv!). Ivan Stewart 16x8 TRD rims arrived today and await new rubber, 5100's on order and should arrive soon.

My noob question is as follows:

After much research on this site (thanks to TW members!) I think I've decided upon a 265/75/r16 BFG TA KO tire with the 5100's set at .85 to help level out the truck. I've always run BFG TA's (2 prior trucks were Nissan hardbodies) and have always used Discount Tire. However, on the Discount Tire web site, there are three types of BFG 265/75/r16 tires listed:

    Type 1: $197 each

    Size LT265/75R-16/D1 120S Warranty 50,000 Miles UTQG N/A Speed Rating S
    Type 2: $201 each
    Size LT265/75R-16/E1 123Q Warranty 50,000 Miles UTQG N/A Speed Rating Q
    Type 3: $202 each
    Size LT265/75R16E1 123S W Warranty 50,000 Miles UTQG N/A Speed Rating S
Aside from the speed rating, can you folks help me with the differences between these tires? Which should I order?

    Cheers - flu33ys

Load rating. Side walls will be stiffer on the E.

Do you want a stiffer ride? Do you tow or load the bed lots? Do you off road where airing down is an issue?

You don't need an E rated tire on a Tacoma. It's an extra 10 lb. of rolling mass on each corner. Go with the lighter rated tire.

I just inquired with Discount tire on a set of the BFG ATs 265/75/16 in the D rating and they told me they would be special order and they dont stock them anymore.

Excellent - thanks for the information. I'm curious where you get the extra 10lbs data from?

Tire Rack has great prices, but shipping costs to Denver more than make up for the difference. :( Discount Tire seems to be the best local option, but still searching.

Thanks for the Hunter "finder" link - most handy!:)

Check it out on the specs page. I guess I was wrong on 10 lbs. I SWEAR it was all of that last I looked.:p It's all extra weight that you don't need anyway.

Ah, ok. I think the D rating is the best move - thanks again!
