Oh, I knew that I had to take a photo before I grabbed the fire extinguisher. Pics or it didn't happen, right?

Also wanted to let people know the shit that can happen when things go horribly wrong!

I need to drive the truck this weekend and can't without a headlight. This is my penance for fucking things up.

Glad it turned out for the house though. Hopefully the fire dept doesn't fine you too like mine did when I burned a few acres in a fireworks incident. :anonymous:

She is Active Duty and we live in post housing. The fire was out when I called 911 and told them NOT to run hot (lights and sirens) and that I only needed them to ventilate the house.

2 Engines, 1 Aerial platform, 1 Rescue Truck, 1 Ambulance, 2 Military Police later....everything was under control. Housing came out and took the oven, told me they'll replace it on Monday. They were cool and told me there will be no cost. My wife is out in the field for an exercise until Wednesday so I'm hoping to have the house smelling "normal" by then. Since no-one was hurt and there was no damage to the home, her command doesn't have to be notified.

I may be living in the backyard for a week or two once she gets home though.

Everytime I don't want something to burn I usually utilize a cotton material that is extremely flammable and put it in the oven with whatever I don't want to burn. For real though... what were you actually thinking? The oven is on 250 even if the towel was soaking wet it would be dry in about 2 minutes at that temperature and light on fire. Glad nobody was hurt over the stupidity of this.

Ah, so you learned that the autoignition temperature of cotton is around 300F I see...

I don't want to rub it in any deeper, but you did ask for it -- Had you actually done 2 weeks worth of research you'd have learned that the ideal surface to put down for the headlight to rest on is cardboard.

Really though... don't forget to replace the towels... My wife would probably miss the new oven, but would immediately notice her "favorite" towels are gone
