I've personally never have seen anyone do it on a 1st gen. I guess removing the lens from one is a highly involved process, moreso than for the 2nd gen.

call me lazy for not finding out myself first, but how would it be a more involved process? same concept right?

On the 1st gens it's a lot more difficult to separate the lens from the housing, IIRC it's not as easy as sticking the whole thing in the oven and removing the lens from the housing, but you can try it out and let us know how it works though.

    That's right ...

The pre-2005 headlight pods aren't as easy to separate as the 2005+ ones. On top of that, the pre-2005 pods are made of thinner (whatever ...) plastic that's much more vulnerable to breaking than the later ones.

It *can* be done, but it's a lot trickier than with the 2005+ generation. That's why most pre-2005 owners simply buy a new set of blacked-out pods.
