I'm hoping the timing of the trip (mid march) means that the bugs will be good. I would love to kip up in the ozarks/Mark Twain but I'm basically bombing straight through, I can afford to be relaxed after the big texan meet up :D Looked at the map and I was passing right by Joshua Tree close to bed time so I think I'm going to add Lake Havasu and make it a bit later to get out to JT instead for the night. TBD. I don't mind rest stops on road trips, the goal of road trips isn't the camp site in my mind - that's just gravy if they're nice. :D

Heading down to Yuma to give @ducati a hand at his palace. We're planning on heading east Thursday morning and shooting for McBride on Friday noonish.

Sleeping platform done. Still not 100% on my timing yet. I’m also going to partially play it by ear. There’s a chance I get in Friday afternoon/evening - so once y’all get a camp site let me know.

My kitchen is currently crowded with camper upgrades that I'm fitting up with mount plates and boxes. :anonymous:

Hope to have it all assembled, batteries charged, and the house cleaned by this weekend.

@bvbull200 - So honored to be mentioned! Yes, I’ve conquered the challenge. I’ll keep an eye on this thread - this weekend we’re going to get snowed in here in Colorado and next weekend I’ll be up in the mountains unfortunately. Would LOVE to meet up and eat some steaks!!

I know that Maner, unfortunately, will no longer be able to make it. I'm bringing a buddy from Houston along with me, so that effectively makes the count the same.

My plan is to get there Friday early evening (4-ish?). I'll just be staying in a local hotel.

I'm going to call The Big Texan again today to see about getting a table on Saturday. If the poll results hold, that means 11 folks coming to the restaurant to watch and 3 going to do the challenge, right?

I'll get a table for 15 around lunch time on Saturday (they've already told me not to expect to be able to get big table seating that evening). Everyone that is planning on The Big Texan plan to be there around noon?

Sounds like a plan. I'm +1, depending on how social the other half feels

I am bringing my grand daughter so I am getting a room also, was waiting to hear where people are camping to decide where to get a room.
What hotel are you staying? I will be going down Thursday & playing golf Friday if anyone is interested.

I'm used to the drill by now. Once got a warning and a threat of being evicted from a park ranger because of this: 20190809_203918.jpg

A bottle, wrapped in a koozie, and the camper door was facing the woods, so that shelf was turned 180 degrees from the road.

He at least had good humor about it though. He said "I appreciate you camouflaging it, but that's still illegal. Keep it in the vehicle." And then a read-between-the-lines statement of "you should only be holding your coffee mug when wandering around camp."

So yeah, always pack your off-brand yeti tumbler when camping in Texas. :anonymous:

*permitted  I don’t know who all is coming but from the sounds of it we’ve got me - I’m 27 but an old fart at heart, I’m seeing grand kids mentioned etc so I don’t think it’ll be a rowdy. But fair enough to know.
