First post so guys take it easy on me. Total car/truck nerd. No mods ... yet :). Looking for a more "aggressive" stock look. Biggest peeve is narrow inset tires. Thinking of 0 offset 8" rim with BFG T/A KO2 (seems like that the standard here) 275/70/16. I've read that WEX has 265/75/16 and they fit. Rubbing is the concern. Anyone done this?

you'll get more help with search than actually making this thread as its so over done people usually just go off topic in it. you'll likely be taken easy on because you're a girl and guys will always go easier on you lol.

But for what its worth, you want to run the most over rated tire out there. but anyways, 265 70 17, which will be the same as the 265 75 16 you mentioned, although many say it fits stock it doesn't. At least not with a 0 offset wheel. I have the 17inch version on a 0 offset wheel and I rubbed on my mud flaps. Now that was the only thing I rubbed on. so its easy to fix.

The 275/70/16 you mentioned will likely rub on your cab mount

This was my 265 70 17 duratrac at full lock. the mud flap rubbed

Welcome! Since you are a nerd, Do me a favor and go outside, cut your wheels all the way and measure the distance from edge of tire to closest point on fender. Now take a ruler, lay it flat across the tire tread where it is closest to the fender and see how much you can push the tire out away from the vehicle before you rub. It's not much. Also remember that, even if you lift it, you still have to clear at this height as the suspension will compress when off road. Good luck and welcome to TW! BTW that's the last tire I would pick but to each their own.

I don't get why they're always referred to as aggressive lol.

They aren't at all. My duratracs are way more aggressive, and the Goodyear MTR are a hell of a lot more aggressive.

Exactly. I drive 30K a year and several months of snow so I stick with the Cooper AT3. The bro tire is not real good on the wet, even though they have the "snowflake." If I were picking a perfect off road tire it would be the MTR for me.
I gave her the ruler technique so she can visually see what happens with the offset pushed out.

    yep good idea.

and I know I had them on a work truck for a company I worked for, after 10 000km they were bloody scary if it was raining. really don't get the hype for them since they aren't all that good. Guess its just marketing. All it takes is ken block or bj baldwin to have it and then slap a hoonigan name next to it, and boom the bros will flock like seagulls haha.

I wouldn't say they are a 'bad' tire, just at their price and the hype for them they are bad. if they were a bit cheaper and not as over hyped as a godly tire I wouldn't say the same. Give them credit that it is one strong tire though. They don't puncture easy. Nice strong side walls

MTR is what I'm leaning more and more towards for next spring. I run winter tyres in the winter months so not concerned about the winter rating. Otherwise might stick with the Duratrac. But definitely need to go bigger. need moarrrr ground clearance

Thanks guys. I've done all the research I pretty much know to do. According to TR specs, the 275s are 1/2" taller dia 1/4" closer to mudflats, tread width is .2" and section width is .3" wider. 0 offset pushes wheel 1" out from the stock 25mm. Doesn't seem like a big stretch but I'll measure per hiPSI. Good tip. 265/75/16 are a full inch taller but narrower. KO2s get a pretty high rating (TR) on everything but treadwear. I'm not into aggressive just for the look as a trade off for performance (snow, rain) and comfort (noise, ride). Ru saying Duratrac and MTR win on those two fronts? I'm not off-road much ... mostly rain/snow.

It gets old, thier all good tires and you will have no problems with any of them.

you don't want to invest in a lift before you start fucking with the wheels and tires?

i'm not bashing you, by any means. but if you're a nerd. go back and re-think your decision before you slap some wheels and tires on. the smarter option is do to it right the first time.. if you have money to blow financially that is. then you would heed this advice.. and get a good lift kit.

Although I can't speak to the duratrac or MTR in the winter as I've never tried them for winter since I just run Nokian tires for those months. I can however say I had a work truck with the ko2 and in the winter once they had about 15000km on them they were terrible.

I've heard the duratrac are decent in the winter. Probably not the best though same with the MTR.

I've heard a lot of good about the st Maxx in the winter.

Problem with a 275 is if you aren't rubbing on UCA you'll be rubbing on cab mount

Lift doesn't really do much for fitting larger tires unless you're going 6" +

With larger tires it's the width that causes problems

That's not a nerd problem. Nerds focus on function 1st, looks second.

Search will find you threads with folks running 255 85 16s on stock wheels, stock suspension, no rubbing.

Tall tire that creates some actual lift with a side benefit of visually filling the wheel wells. Wider isn't always better.

I was in the same boat. Ended up getting a set of 17" Pro rims for a 4-Runner. They are not as inset as the factory Tacoma rims. Then I went with 265/70 KO2's, which gave me the choice of picking the "C" rated version. The C's don't carry the big weight penalty of the E's. They ride a bit better. It's a common set-up and I'm happy with the results.
