I'm a parts guy at a Honda Dealer. I sold my 08 Civic Si to buy my 11 Tacoma. Best move I ever made! Never regretted getting something bigger.

    I heard direct injection V6

    OP good luck w/ BT/AIT.
Keep what you have & sell the civic right before you ship out.
Save a nice down payment during IADT cuz you won't need transportation, Uncle Sam takes care of that.
Then when you come home come back buy a truck!
You can also join USAA & use their buying program,
heck finance it through them plus take advantage of the rebates or whatever Toyota is offering.
USAA has a no hassle buying program with many dealers across the country.
I just used it for my tundra.
Plus you drill check can cover the payment, if you have one.
    good luck.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
If the saving is that good, maybe try it out for a little while and put away the difference. If you don't save the difference then I would say it was a bad idea.

With the big push toward electric green machines you will be lucky to get a V6 by 2016. Standard 4 cyl and turbo 4 cyl only.

If VW would bring the 4-Motion Golf TDI over, I'd be on it in a heartbeat (to replace the Subaru). But they won't sell the AWD diesel version here. Only Europe.

I feel your pain. I almost bought a WRX until I got the insurance quote. Anyway, an SI should hold its value well, so why not sell and get a Reg. cab for $19-21k? I am sure your place has to have some sort of arrangement with the folks at a Toyota dealer. If done correctly, and your credit is good, you should be under 400/month by a lot.

Yeah I love the GTI, would have bought one, or an R32, if I could get one to come in under the price of a WRX. Love my Tacoma, and put a lot down so she will be paid for, then I can get my fast car.

I don't really mind a few less MPG for something I like to drive, and want to make better. I have not lost a cent on my Jeeps, motorcycles, or sports cars because I keep them in beautiful shape (because I wanted them) I am an outdoor guy so the Tacoma is not being counted. It is something I will keep til I am ... dead? haha

Certainly not going to buy an RX8 (14-16 MPG w/1.3 liter rotary engine)
