I won’t shun you, but no I haven’t tried anything. Maybe down the road a bit. I’m considering just selling the wheels and tires at this point.

This is curious since so many people on this forum think there is no rubbing with Stock Pros..did something change with the wheel specs?

Get a 1/2" toytec top place spacer and a 1" block for the back and that could help some.

This is the kit I was referring to. If I have problems I am going to seriously consider this.

I honestly don’t know Joe, I know the wheel formula is as follows:

    (Section Width X Aspect Ratio / 2540 x 2) + Wheel Diameter

    So (285 x 70 / 2540 x 2) + 17 = 32.7
    But
    (285 x 70 / 2540 x 2) + 16 =31.7

so it may just be that they are running 16” wheels and not 17” that one inch may make all the difference.

The folks running 16" wheels to include myself run a 285/75 vs the 285/70 of the 17" wheel.

I'm glad you brought this up since this is often a topic of heated discussion and I have always been a skeptic of the "no rubbing" crowd

so you are actually running a larger Diameter wheel although not much. Your set up is at 32.8. Did you do any modifications or lifts?

Some guys are running 255/85r16 (33") on stock 3rd Gen Off Roads and claim no rubbing. I will find out this weekend.

Joe, so here's what you run vs what I am gonna run. Obviously the biggest difference is the width. That 1" + could make a lot of difference depending on the wheels some people run. No? The stock wheels should provide the best results. I think I will be very close in my stock 19' Pro.

Ya the 255/85s seem to fit for almost everyone and you are right the width of the 285/75 is typically what causes the rubbing issues, it’s those guys with 285s that leave me skeptical.

Yea I agree, 285 guys be like :stirthepot:. :D

I m prepared to remove some plastic though if I have to and adjust the castor too. Minor lift in the form of additional/new springs will be a last resort. I like the way it rides. Not too firm, not too soft. Just right. I hope I can go full stuff stock on those 33" skinnys.

I believe the 4Runner pro wheels have a different offset compared to the Tacoma Pro wheels maybe that is part of your issue.

Tacoma Pro wheels have a 13mm offset so its not that much of a difference.

My 265/75/16 rubs a tad on my mud flaps on sharp turns. Not enough to worry about it, but ya, they do rub.

    But, I don't own a Pro!

I have stuffed them on various inclines around my property. Not at anything high speed. As I enter my driveway there is a stormwater flow line valley between the road and driveway. I hit this as hard and fast as possible and still no rub! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I may even try to put the mud flaps back on.

The problem with the 17s is the negative offset. When you put 285s on, because of the increased distance of the rim outward, the arc is too large to fit in the wheel well. I run 285/75/16s on stock pro wheels and do not ever rub offroad. WIth my 100% stock pro setup, I clear the UCA by a bout 3/4 in and can go full lock fully articulated with no rub in the fender well.

on road grip/roll was miles better with the foot-wide e-rated stiff 285s, but they just aren't possible on wheels with different offset than the stock ones. Any more negative and you'll rub the fender, and more positive and you rub the UCA.

I suspect you will see worse on-road performace with 255s for the simple fact that you have a much smaller contact patch than 285s, and even the stock 265s

I cant even get the 285s to squeal without feeling like the truck will roll.
