Now this is exactly what I was looking for, almost like the OEM cleat style. So many great ideas guys, thanks! I'll definitely have some experimenting to do this weekend.

What are these bolts called? Sorry really no knowledge at all about anything like this haha...

simple solution........ why not just get a tail gate cover? holds a ton of bikes, non tangled form... this is what i do with my DH buddies. fit 5 in the truck, 5 bikes in the back no problem. little effort... wheels don't have to come off. just throw them right over the tailgate. quick and easy.

I like the security of a fork mount. Even without a lock, it's enough of a deterrent for people to keep their hands off my bike, especially if the front wheel is locked in the back seat.

With a tailgate pad, they can just lift it out and ride away.

never heard of that happening... usually when we are traveling a few hours in each direction we are strapping them down over the frames anyway...

if you are that anal about something getting jacked you can just get a wire lock and wrap it around 5 frames. would be hard to steal 5 bikes at once. lol.

i see your point though, voodoo, being a vendor that wants to promote and sell the product. there are just easier ways IMO.... no biggie OP, just thought id voice an option that works well for MANY of us MTBers.

You asked, I answered. And all I said was that I like a fork mount. I never specifically promoted any of my products. Fork mounts can be used in many different ways.

i did ask....... the OP... you quickly came in to give negatives about a tailgate pad (which promotes your product, which you clearly came in advertising with a photo - promo codes in your sig along with it, before i even posted).

no big deal. no reason to argue over it. We all ride... just giving the OP some things to think about, especially since he mentioned he and his buddies bikes are getting all tangled. a tailgate pad is a quick and easy solution to his problem...

Some shit I got on craigslist
I have the rocky mounts bc they are lockable/secure. I'll toss the bike in the back for a short drive to the hill, but in my area, if you stop for a Gatorade you may get your bike jacked. <$100 for security is totally worth the peace of mind if you're riding a nice bike.

Also, a cable lock through the d-ring is nice, but cable locks can be cut easily. I guy in my area had his new stupjumper evo stolen off his roof racks after they cut a cable lock.

I have the rockymounts lockable fork mounts, they work very well and look nice. They are expensive, so there's that. On the other hand I had one handle snap after awhile, took a photo of it, emailed rockymounts and they sent me another one no problem.

    yikes, thats scary.

but to each his own, valid statements being made... i guess it would be easy for reg mt bikes with the quick release wheels. with our DH bikes it would a PITA to constantly undo the thru axle on 5 bikes just to secure em.

when my group rides, we come packing with our lunch pales and coolers, so there is never a moment when we arent 5 feet away from our bikes. i wouldn't risk leaving ANY bike on ANY system in the truck to run into a store and grab something, just like i dont leave my garage open for people to walk by to possibly jack the bikes as well. but thats just me.

this is where I am going. My only scratch so far @ 500 miles on the taco was with my bike in a fork mount which wasn't secured well enough (think the board pic but a purchased version of same in metal) and it (bike) fell over in a turn.

I'm tired of pulling the wheels off our bikes anyway so I'm going with the hitch system.

And yep DH bikes are a PIA to pull the wheel, so I can't see anyone doing that with a fork mount.

Curious to see how your system works out for you though... to each his or her own :)

Can you just use long bolts with a washer on the back that hold/slids into the rail system? Need to find a washer that size though.

I'm new to mountain biking, just purchased my first bike actually, and I'm wondering if all these bike fork mounts will work on my Rockshox Pike front shock? I removed my wheel and measure the gap, it's 4" and how about the axle size?

I got a Yakima lockable one from the dealer their price was better than Amazon. Mounted very easily. The lock is OK wouldn't stop a determined person but good enough for short stops or when you're in a place where you can see your truck as they say locks only stop honest people.

I prefer the fork mount as this is added security as I store the front wheel in the cab. Also I feel as though the bike is better protected in the bed and the fork mount is fairly secure and stable.

@dwin619 I may be wrong but I'm fairly sure your fork will fit the width dose not matter as you can adjust the spindle gap for various size forks (meaning width). Axle size dose not matter its not like there is a mount for road bikes one for trail one for enduro which is what you seem to be asking. One size fits all the difference is in wheel sizes which has no bearing unless you tried to mount a motorcycle fork.

No they will not work on your Rockshox pike fork. It has a 15mm through axle, these only work on a slotted axle or axle with an open side.

I think I know what you mean, but can you link me to one that works?

I'm guessing because mine is an actual hole, not half hole. ????
