Billstein 5100 height setting TRD sport

What would you recommend setting the billstein 5100 shocks at in order to keep the stock height of a 2011 TRD sport? It says 0 will keep it stock but I've read other guys using .85. I don't want to lift the truck. I bought the Sport model for on road handling and could care less about off road handling.

 

Stock height, yes, set at 0. Set it to .85 would raise the front to about level if you have the 3 leaf rear. If you have the rear tsb (4 leaf) then set the front to 1.75 to achieve level.

I just went with the latter and it still rides about the same as stock imo.

Thanks guys. I have to check the rear springs and see what I have. I feel like I don't notice a difference hauling but my 2011 access cab handles way different than my 2007 double cab did and they were both TRD sport models. I know there's about a foot difference in length but man it seemed like I could drive twice as fast in turns with my last truck. It seems that a lot of guys want to level out there trucks as well when they put in 5100s on. I like the slope myself.

 

I just had the rear-spring TSB done last week on my 2011 and there is a noticable improvement in unloaded handling and road-feel. Makes the truck 'feel' more solid when hitting bumps. Definitely an upgrade over the 2+1 spring pack and worth getting done if you are still eligible.

Putting in the 2+1 springs instead of the 3+1 springs (tsb-springs) must be some sort of minor cost saving benefit for toyota. There are probably very few Tacoma owners that actually get the spring TSB done, simply because they don't know its supposed to come with the 3+1 instead of the 2+1, and just accept a crappy ride when the truck is loaded.

Please report back on your experience with the 5100s. I'm curious if you notice an improvement in handling. I have a TRD Sport and am considering the 5100s.

 

Well I went to the dealer today after seeing that I have the 3 leaf pack. I explained that I have different handling characteristics with this truck compared to my last TRD Sport, which is very true. He said no problem and he would order the parts and call me to schedule the work. I should probably see if they will install the billstein 5100 because they have to do an alignment but I just dumped a ton of money into the truck getting it supercharged.

 

From all my reading on here, they are the way to go and make a big difference. Check into your rear leaf springs to see if they qualify for the TSB as well. There's a link on here somewhere to get all 4 shocks for $300. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Wow, just got back from the dealer a couple hours ago and new rear spring TSB made a huge difference. I thought someone adjusted my seat and then realized it was the height of the rear that changed. It must be 1.5 inches taller. Feels a lot more like my old 2007 TRD sport now. Feels like a different truck. Now I kinda want the 5100s to see what that will do. I didn't really want a taller rear but I hear it will settle down a bit once they break in.

 

I've read that members have got that much from the tsb and then it settled to between 1/2 to 1". Mine started out around 3/4" and seems to have stayed there. Or course the leaf they added is about 1/2" thick anyway.

 

Good point, didn't think about that. I'm looking forward to hauling an 800 pound load to see how it does.

 

Sounds like most of you guys are having no problem getting dealers to do the tsb. I took my truck to Morristown toyota on friday and they refused to do it. I felt like the were giving me the run around.

 

I think it depends on the dealer. My local dealer had already did a couple of members on here and didn't give me any trouble. They are a high volume dealer/service dept. don't know if that affects things or not. There is a thread on here that list dealers that have done it. Might check it out to see if one close to you is doing them. I also took a copy of the tsb with me.

 

I mentioned the tsb when I made the appointment and asked if I could give him the # and he refused to take it.

 

Contact Corporate and throw the dealer under the bus.

 

My 2013 4X4 DCSB, TRD Sport came with 4 leafs. Like you, I am really interested in on road handleing.
