Is that an okay thing to do to a 20yr old leaf pack?

I found a post from 2005 on another forum where a guy went to a dealership and measured the height around all four corners on a brand new 1st gen 4x4.

I dunno if it’s allowed to post a link to an outside forum but I can send it you to you if you would like.

    I wouldn’t mind seeing it

I did however finally find out that the springs installed are in-fact incorrect. The number on them when looked up appears to be for a new 05 and up Tacoma. I had to do a lot of digging with 3 part numbers to confirm they aren’t correct.

next problem is Moog stated they no longer make them for my truck anymore in the correct part number.
Online place I ordered from stated they did however find the correct springs in a separate warehouse despite no longer being made from Moog
Correct spring is #81082 NOT #81074 and is printed on the spring. “Incase anyone does what I do and runs into this”
So now I wait for them again and hope I do infact receive the correct springs with shocks. And will update when I swap them if I find all is correct after all this.

If it were me I'd just run it as is and correct the squat by addressing your leaf pack (add a leaf or new leaf pack), rather than have to tear the front apart again. Are you that unhappy with how high the front is, or just disappointed with the squatted stance?

I would as I don’t mind the lift but I question that because the spring is meant for a heavier truck, it’s probably fully extending the stock shock and also giving me a much harsher ride “it’s pretty stiff feeling” kinda like OME’s stiffer springs for armor bumpers or wenches.

so I was gonna keep it but also I didn’t really want a lift as I usually load my street bike into it from time to time
The struts are assembled by them so I just unbolt and bolt back in so it’s not too much work, about an hr but my big thing is I could potentially get a much better ride with a spring that isn’t as stiff as the incorrect one I have now so ‍♂️

Welp installed the correct springs with the shocks finally. And to update
It sits normal again now, it was absolutely the wrong springs. My hopes said it would settle but indeed not the case when they are incorrect.

and some said to just leave with the lifted one. It was obvious that the springs on that Shock was too stiff over extending the shocks as they aren’t meant for lift.
The truck rode so stiff and I had nothing to compare it to. I thought just normal
    The new CORRECT springs in
It rides night and day different!
    NOT NEARLY as hard.
So glad it got worked out and the truck is back to normal. No more Carolina Squat

Good to here it is straightened out. Did you return the first set and get a new set from the vendor?
Is SKU: 4600BIL95T what you ordered?

This was out of stock a couple weeks ago but I got an email notification that they were back in stock.

yes so they sent me a return label and I just shipped them back yesterday
And that is what I ordered, I noticed it was also out of stock but back now
You can see if you have same truck as me you can see the spring 81104 spring is not correct for it but showed on their site so they would need to be contacted to get the correct spring
Here is a picture of the spring #’s they sent me when we were figuring out the actual correct spring
This must be from Moogs “old catalog” for springs because the correct spring is no longer made but maybe can still be found out there

I've got a 2002 Crew cab Prerunner 3.4L with 170k miles, so I think the 81082 is the correct one for mine.
I'm not sure the springs are worn out because the ride level is good. I just measured and have about 20.5" from center to fender flare lip on front and back. Original springs front and back. New 4600 shocks on the back and I can tell the front shocks are gone too. Since I need to do shocks, it makes sense to do the spring and top hat all at once and that finished assembly is a good deal and I won't have to mess with spring compressor.

I’m not sure I can’t see yours in that list for years? Did you?
And I’m sure sagging a little bit
I’m about an inch or so higher as I was for sure sagging
But the more assembled and with new top hats is for sure nice
    Install is very simple

I don't see it specifically in that pic but I can't imagine there is a significant difference from the exact same 2001 PreRunner Crew Cab 2wd 3.4L model which calls for the 81082.

It seems that the big difference is with 4x4 and/or Off Road Package. I started a chat with them over the weekend and their response this morning was a kit that uses the 81104 spring, and I don't think that's right for mine. As far as I can tell, I don't have the Off Road package or the extra weight of 4wd apparatus up front. Anyone know how to tell? Is it in the VIN code or something? I have no stickers on the truck like I see with a lot of the TRD models.

Now I can't find the 81082 spring in any of the combos. For 2WD V6 the only option is 81078 spring. Could have sworn I saw it earlier today on a 3-6 week backorder. I guess I am going to have to call them.

so yours is a Prerunner but not a TRD off road? Should also be off road if it’s a Prerunner I assume
Unless just a regular non TRD truck
And crew cab, so you have 4door
My little brothers truck was same as mine just 4door and 2001.

only difference is 4door may be a little heavier so it could potentially be a different spring than on my truck that just has an access cab.
Gotta know exactly what your truck is

So you originally got the 81104 spring, and it was confirmed that it was for a 2nd gen?

The wrong spring they sent ME was originally 81074, which Moog confirmed that that was for the new gen Tacoma 05 and up
As you can see on attatched picture
This was the wrong spring for my first gen

And 81082 was correct for your 2wd prerunner TRD access cab (same as mine)?

I don't know how to tell whether it is an Off Road package or not. There are no stickers on the bed. The only way you'd know it wasn't a standard truck is the six lug wheels and small PreRunner nameplate on the tailgate.

Yes, the springs unfortunately don’t have a number on them but they should have been that # 81082 that I have no
Oem springs don’t have any numbers on them too so figure maybe that’s why? Not sure
But yea they work on my truck same as yours
Little higher but probably how it was brand new and not old and sagged
The wrong springs I got initially were sky high

If you have a rear axle locker and your truck says Prerunner
I’m going to say it is a TRD off road
If you don’t have a locker I’m sure it isn’t
