Where did you get the aal (some are not designed right, can damage the pack, and cause poor ride quality)? Usually if you set the front at 2.5" you will need a 1.5" aal.

On the middle notch...hopefully about 1" will do all I want it to do. Plus when I get more $$ I'll go back and get an AAL or a set of leafs and pull the shocks off and move the spring seat up to the top notch.

Good information. I just got a set of the Bilsteins for the front of my Tacoma. I have to admit though I am a little concerned with the small snap ring thing that sits in the groove to hold up the coil perch. It just seems like a flimsy idea to me. It kind of scares me to think that the one little snap ring in a groove is all that is holding everything up. I guess that no one has had issues with this set up have they?

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.

you would be surprised on how much pressure that little snap ring can hold.

I guess that I am used to shocks that have the coil perch welded on so it seemed a little flimsy in comparison.

Bilstein is one of, if not the best, shock manufacturers in the world. You can rest assured that they would not have designed it, if it wasn't going to work.

Thanks for the help everybody! I wound up not even having to take anything off, just put my truck up on the lift and used a pry bar to pull the LCA down in order to fit the shock in. I'll try to post a pic tomorrow. Very easy and straightforward install, and the truck rides 1000000000000000000000000x better.

the control arm will drop allowing you to remove and install the shock and strut without being a pain in the ass when i did my 5100 billy's. the only problem was reattaching the sway bar we had to use allen keys and a wrench since the bolt would spin

Sure, what you can't do is getting the AAL & NOT the 5100's for the rear, the stock shocks are too short to compensate for the lift & also the pass. side rear shock is longer than the drivers side rear shock for 1st gens.

pretty sure 2nd gens are the same....;)

its pretty straight foward. shouldnt take you more than an hour if you run into problems. thats if the coils are already on the shocks

5100's all the way around, OME 880's and AAL, BF's 265/75R16. Switched beds from Stepside to Fleetside
I'm thinking pretty similar, 5100' in the front with original coils, and add a leaf in the back with 5100's. Would this be good to get my 2002 TRD stepside sitting good? (going to have it done while she's getting a new frame).
