So I may be buying a used Demello front plate bumper without a winch in the next week, and I'm worried about the current lift I have holding all the weight up front.

I'm currently lifted on 5100's set at 1.75" with TRD O/R OEM springs. My question is which spring should I go with to hold the new bumper and possibly future winch?

I was thinking OME 886"s, but is it OK to use those with 5100's? I do wheel my truck a few times a month, nothing too crazy but some decent trails rides.

    Any opinions?

Are you wanting to stick with the 1.75" lift height? If so, you have several options you can do with the height adjustable 5100's and the HD bumper.

With the TRD springs you can move it up to the 2.5" setting (top groove) so that the extra weight will bring it down to around 1.75". Will be pretty stiff ride though.

For better ride quality, you can go with lift springs like Eibach from Toyteclifts or with OME 885. You could set the shock ring on the 2nd clip position from bottom to achieve about 2.5" lift and the bumper weight will bring it down to close to 1.75" as well. FYI, Toytec warns not to go above the 2nd clip cuz it can damage the shock.

The OME 886 springs aren't recommended for the 5100 shocks and don't think you'd need that much spring unless you're going to put a winch on. If you do then you may want to go with OME Nitro front shocks with the 886 spring.

    Hope that helps!

How did the 5100s treat you a far as ride quality when paired with the stock TRD Offroad coils? I have been looking for advice from the guys with the offroad package with 5100s for forever. Our front ends are stiffer than the sport package and i wonder 5100s will be too stiff with my offroad coils? I plan on adding a plate bumper down the road as well and thought i might just try and crank the 5100s all the way up when i get to that point to see if they will support it enough to still sit level. I plan to set the billies at 1.75 w/o the bumper and leave the rear alone. You have any pics of your previous set up?

To answer your question, it's not too stiff in the front as of now. They're set to 1.75" on TRD OR coils w/o a plate bumper. It's definitely not the same as stock, but nevertheless, I've driven some very stiff trucks and it's a lot nicer compared to my previous spacer lift.

How big were your spacers and were they the kind that sit on top of the strut assembly? I'd definetely like to hear from you if you try to add the bumper with the 5100s on the stock O/R coils. Thanks for the advice!

Yes they were 2.25" top plate spacers. I have a set of Icon extended travel coilovers with remote resis coming in this next week, so the 5100's will be for sale.

Sorry for the thread revival here guys, but I have a similar question.

My front suspension is Bilstein 5100's at 1.75'' and stock coils. I may be getting a Demello front plate bumper (they weigh in around 100 lbs) and I was wondering if you guys think this bumper will make my front end sag a lot with stock coils. I will be upgrading to OME 885's in the future, but that is in 3-4 years, and I'm wondering if I can get away with this set up until then.

If you guys think it will, is it ok to crank the 5100's up to 2.5'' so that the bumper (if it does sag the front suspension) will settle back down to around the equivalent of the 1.75'' setting?

I would think over time it may start to sag, but then you may be able to get away with bumping up to 2.5 then. I am not sure what the spring rate is on the OEM off road coils, but they are the progressive coils, so that should help you keep the front up.
Also if you think about it, you aren't really adding an extra 100# to your truck. You are removing the OEM bumper and bumper cover so that will subtract, what, 20-30 pounds? So its really not too much extra weight. My single hoop weighed in at 105# IIRC.

Ok, thanks John. I think the most logical thing to do is put the bumper on with the shocks at 1.75'' and see how it goes. I can always crank it up to 2.5'' later if I really want to, but I'd like to avoid that since I've heard that the 2.5'' setting is not the most healthy one for the shock, even though people have run it before.

If you need an extra set of hands putting the bumper on, give me a shout. It's much easier with two people trying to line the holes up. I had help the first time from Toshi, but I've since taken it off and adjusted it by myself and it wasn't easy.
On a side note when you purchase, remember those Demello bumpers are coming from the left coast, shipping is outrageous. I believe mine was +-200 to ship here.

Thanks! I'll see if my brother and dad can help me put it on whenever I get it, but if for some reason I need some more help, I'll be sure to ask. And as far as shipping, that's not actually as bad as I thought it was going to be. I was prepared to go up to $300 for shipping but $200 is not that bad (certainly not great either  ) especially since it's a +/- 100 lb product going across the country. I think pretty much all the fab shops here are in the People's Republic of California so I don't think I have much of a choice...I think it's definitely worth it though since Demello bumpers are really the only ones I don't get tired of looking at and won't get tired of it on my truck.

I am running an All Pro Apex bumper with 5100's set at 2.5 with offroad coils and am pretty much sitting a little above stock height. It is pretty stiff since everything is compressed and the fact that the coil is a progressive rate. I will be upgrading to a CO with 700# coils.

Hey all sorry to revive an old thread but I wanted to know if I can get some advice on my 05 Taco. I'm trying to decide if I should get the adjustable bilstein 5100's or go with OME 885's at 3inches. I'm planning on getting this winch bar in a few months http://www.4wheelparts.com/Bumpers-...tl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_pDetail_productSpecs I've been trying to get some advice on best lift and which one's would be best. I won't be upgrading the UCA's until next year in the summer so I was hoping to get as much info and advice as possible. Once again sorry for the resurrection but I'd really appreciate any and all advice!
