Bilstein 5100s at 1.75!

Using aftermarket coils is completely fine. A lot of member are running Eibach's or OME paired with 5100's. myself included.

If you think you may want to bump your lift up past 1.75 and have money for new uca's then it doesn't hurt to buy them, but at 1.75 it's not necessary.

 

Here is a little bump for the thread. 2 years after asking this question I finally bought bilsteins and a wheelers 1.5 inch aal. Set the bilsteins at 1.75 and this is how she turned out!

Thanks for that update, my eyes are bleeding after readying all the 5100 posts. Did you get the longer 5100's in the rear? Just asking cause It looks like DSM recomends them with a TSB and a 1.5 AAL.

 

I went with the standard length 5100s and have had no problems!

Just got my 1st tacoma 4 days ago.. was plannin on leavin it stock for awhile (that notion lasted about a day) had settled on the rough country 2.5" lift and then stumbled onto this site. After a few hours of reading and finding this thread (and reading it from begining to end) i know 2 things.... #1 my eyes and head hurt. and #2 i think i wanna just do bilsteins all the way around. BUT before i drop 300 bucks i would like to make sure i got this right. the bilsteins are goin to lift my truck the same as a lift would without the lift? i was plannin on the lift with 285/70/17's only because i was gettin the tires at a great price barely used... i would rather buy new tires and stick with a 16" rim so stayin with the 265's is fine for me. so i guess i just want some input on the difference and pros and cons between the lift at $239 and bilsteins at $320. TIA

You can set the 5100s at 2.5 which should give you enough room for 285s, but remember you are preloading your stock coils so at 2.5 it will ride stiff. If you can save the money, I would get bilsteins on all four corners plus a new set of coils that lift the truck. (Eibachs or OME)

 

Went ahead and did mine at .85, still need to measure but looks pretty level to me.

265/75r16 with 5100's at 1.75 and 1.5 Icon progressive aal (overload removed, non-tsb springs) If you have the TSB leaf springs, I think yours would sit close to this with a 1" AAL, from what I gather.

 

thats just about the lean i want tho. i think the look that i really want is not goin to happen without a lift and 33's but i HAVE to fight that urge! this is my dd and i dont want to start tearin stuff up. i have a jeep on 33's to play in. but man is it hard! I have seen aal and tsb everywhere and could not figure tsb out

 

5100's all around. 1.75" in front and 1.5" toytec blocks in rear.

 

so that first notch on the front shock is set at 1.75???

 

1st notch is stock ride height. 2nd is 0.85", 3rd notch is 1.75" and top notch is 2.5".

 

Also, be aware that those settings do no guarantee actual lift height. I got 2 3/8" of lift at 1.75, and although others have told me that it will settle some, I can't imagine it settling 3/4" which would put me back to just over 1.75 of lift. We'll have to see. The only thing I can think of is that the 4 banger has less weight up front, causing me to get a little more lift. That's assuming that Bilstein set those adjustment heights with V6's in mind. Don't know what the weight difference is between the two either.
