Bilstein 6112 ! Dif drop or not ?

Well, just pulled the trigger on 6112 coil overs set at the top notch , 2.5" . Also TC UCAs . Reading so much on to dif drop or not ? Opinions please .

no diff drop if you're going to off road, more low hanging fruit for you to damage. from what i read it should not mess up the cv angle that badly. plus eventually should replace the boot anyway.

 

Thanks for the response .Think I will skip the dif drop ( even though I'm not off road much at all ) . Maybe go with the Allpro Off-road long travel outer CV boot . Problem is the inner boot tears more often .

 

There's some easy checking for you to do. Get all the stuff installed, jack the front end up off the ground with the tires on, then rotate the front tires, one at a time. You'll be able to tell real quickly if there is any binding at full droop. If there is, it's a risk you'll take by not running a diff drop kit. In my 4Runner, I'm using longer travel struts and they were right at the verge of binding the CV's with this same test, so I'm running the diff drop kit now. I'd rather lose an inch of clearance than have to replace the CV's too early.

But also, if it's a road pounder, and you never reach full droop, then you could skip it too. Just don't jump too many train crossings. hahaa

 

I have 6112 on the 4th notch. No diff drop.

Not a lot of train tracks around here , Lol . Thanks for the info . Truck has 95000 miles replaced CVs last May because of torn boots , within 2 monthes the inner boot on passenger side tore Have 5100 set at 1.75 right now . But replacing with the 6112 at 2.5 . Just have to wait for the install and see what happens. Thanks

Yeah, our long travels are about the same extended length as 5100's, so we recommend a DD Kit.

I ran a diff drop kit for a while and then yanked it. I did not notice the loss in ground clearance. However, the diff would contact the skid plate when I put the truck in reverse and that irritated the hell out of me. I'm running Icons set at ~2.75" and have no issues with my boots.
