    Hey Guys!

I bought this ‘97 auto, 4x4 3.4L with 42,000 miles a few months ago in Tennessee and shipped out to Hawaii. Pretty stoked on it just wish it was a manual.

I am looking at upgrading the suspension and am curious if the Bilstein 6112’s exist for 1st gens? I have heard different things from different vendors... Assuming that they do exist I am torn between these and a full OME kit.

Does anyone have thoughts on either of these choices?

PS- can’t wait to get rid of the eyebrow on the truck... whyyyyyy would someone do that

I think it would be mega overkill for such a light truck. You would have no dampening at all.

If they make them for a 1st gen tundra they will fit your truck. I have tundra 5100's on my 2002.

Love my 6112's on my new truck.

Cool guys thanks for the help! I actually did realize a day after posting that they do exist and Wheelers has them. It does seem like they are rare on 1st gens though as I can’t really find any posts here.

Anyone out there have 6112 on 1st gen and like them?

    Thanks

Subbed as I was thinking of doing same. Decided to start with 5100s on factory coils for evaluation. I have an outlet for them if they do not perform, in which case I will consider 6112s. Got my shocks ordered from @Wheeler's Off-Road Inc and was very impressed with their customer service. Highly recommended.
Please post a review if you go with the 6112s.

Still searching for anyone with a 1st gen who has tried out the Bilstein 6112’s? Anyone?:notsure:

Have OME Nitros and 881’s on my 99 and am really thinking things could be better when I upgrade my ‘97 in the near future!

Switched over my 32’s from my old truck today and can barely turn haha.. looks great but time to order lift set up next week. Anyone? It’s between 6112/5100’s w Dakars and a full OME set up. 9706AA5D-70B3-4651-B5CE-B7224E364B22.jpg

On a sad note I did uncover a nickel size hole in the frame while scraping at a bit of rust.. gonna be a bunch of wire wheeling and rust treating done while upgrading suspension

Might be a bit late to the party but I am running the 6112's on my 96 with SPC UCA's and Dakar leafs in the back with 7100 short bodies. I had to run a heavier spring on the 6112's since they come stock with only a 450lbs. Went with a 550lbs spring from Eibach and it rides quite nice. Granted I have a lot of extra weight on the truck. If you have any questions I would be happy to try to answer them.

Kapton, what was the part number for you rear shocks? I want to run with Dakars as well but I'm having a hard time finding Bilstiens thatbwill match the lift height of the dakars. I'm looking for something that works, not "works unless you..." which we've all heard, too many people are jumping beyond specs on their equipment.

I do not have a forsure answer for you sorry. I have a set of 10" 7100 short bodies on the truck at the moment. I have a heavily modified rear leaf pack and rear setup on the truck at the moment. I have a suspicion that my shocks will not work with your setup.

So, yeah this is a Zombie thread, but hey I'm using the search function!

I was hoping that @Kapton could elaborate a little more on his setup and why he decided to use a heavier spring rate. Armor in front? Reg / Access / Double cab? I am also curious what you have done with your rear setup, just looking at what has been done.

For reference I have a 95 Reg Cab, 3RZ, Manual, 4x4. I already have a new set of 6112's for this truck. I run a set of Tundra 6112's w/600 lb. springs on my 3rd gen 4Runner and really like them, but that truck is substantially heavier than the little Tacoma. The Tacoma will also be using a customized OME leaf pack, and 5100s in the rear.

How did yours come with 450lb springs? I ordered them for my '97 and mine came with 600lb, I haven't installed the struts, yet. I've only seen them come with 600, but you can buy 650 and 700 for them, but nothing lighter than 600. I'm thinking abut ordering 650 for mine, since I have an all pro tube bumper and skids to put on.

OP, do you have an update how your 6112 are? Wondering if you used the springs that came on them.
