Those are self-locking nuts. Once you get a few threads on it is engaged and from there you will have to use a wrench or socket....unless you're the hulk. haha

I've never seen a locking nut like that - it's a flange nut with the serrations on the bottom. The only locking nuts I've ever worked with are the ones that have a nylon insert. These look like they would mess up the thread on the bolt =/

This is quite common in suspension areas as nylon may be affected by heat, UV and other debris/oil. Also nylon wears out quickly with just a few uses, where as a mechanical locking nut such as these can be used several time. The rule of thumb on a nut like this is - if you can thread it on fully by hand it requires replacement. No damage will be done to the threads as long as it threads on smooth the first couple threads.

I’ve got the lifetime adjustment. Used it 3 times in a year. 1st two on stock truck and then 3rd time was w lift and UCA’s. No issues and I’ve already gotten my $$ out of it

Yes totally normal. There are various styles of lock nuts. This is one style. Others are nyloc or having a slightly oval shape. The reason you can't hand tighten them is because they are lock nut so you can only thread a small portion (until it hits that notched section) by hand and then the rest needs to be done with a tool. If it were easy to spin on it would be easy to spin off and we don't want that to happen.

@HeadStrong Off-Road I picked up a set of unassembled 6112's recently. My question is what company would you recommend for the top hat? I've found KYB makes them but haven't seen much else. I could reuse my factory top hat but I'll be honest that's too much work lol. I've done it before on my 4runner and was wishing I had just bought the top hat separate.

Moog also offers the Top Hats for about $10 more than KYB. For what it’s worth, Wheelers carries the KYB top hats so hoping that means they’re not getting customer complaints about it. I’d be curious to know what Headstrong uses in their pre assembled struts, if anyone knows.

You should be fine with no rub on the 4/5 setting.

Thought I would give a little update for people looking for a deal, $558.xx before the RockAuto TW discount. This is for the 3rd gen, but it should work on a 2nd gen as well from my understanding. Only difference is 6 clip settings compared to 5 for the 2nd gen. It looks like the 6112 deal I got for the 2nd gen specific shocks are out of stock because they are not listed anymore. I'm not saying not to purchase from Headstrong, Wheelers or others as they are amazing vendors! But I am a thrifty person, always looking for a good deal and I like passing it on to others.

Ok so I have gone through the entire thread of 191 pages and I am pretty sure I know the answer but wanted to confirm. I have a 2017 DCSB TRD OR with sliders, full aluminum skids and a snugtop camper shell. I am pretty set on the 6112 and 5160 with an AAL. My question is do I set the 6112's to 6/5 or 5/4? I don't want bro lean and I am fine with either the truck being level or having some rake. Took some measurements in the driveway and was unsure about what setup to go with, but keep in mind the truck was on a moderate incline.
    LF: 20 3/4
    RF: 21
    RR: 21 1/4
    LR: 21

If I am doing my math right, if I go with a 2in (6/5 clip setting) lift upfront and a 1.5 in AAL in the rear, I could potentially be 1/4 of an inch high in the front. Would the small bit of extra weight in the aluminum skids weigh the front down at all? They're only ~70lbs if I recall correctly.

If you have a camper you probably want a full leaf pack and maybe the HD? I don't know what your camper shell weighs.

I think the snugtop is ~200lbs tops, is that enough weight to warrant replacing the leaf pack? Besides that I rarely have anything heavy in the back besides when I go camping and even then it's nothing too heavy. Would the HD make it ride too stiff with a snugtop only?

HD is for 600lbs constant load, at least the Dakar is. If you're only going up 1.5 in the rear, 5/6 may be a little high in the front. I am not sure. I'm installing mine tomorrow at 5/6 with a Dakar pack.
