I’m looking to do 6112s on my truck and this is what I have learned.

5/6 will get you 2” on a 3rd Gen, 2.5” with the 650 lb springs but ride quality will suffer as well as CV angles.

The blocks in the rear will likely degrade the stock springs, so maybe consider an add-a-leaf.

You will need the UCAs with 2.5” of lift to get the alignment back in spec.

You will need spacers, 1.25 hub centric, to run 285s with the stock OR wheels or the positive offset of the 7” wheels will conflict with the UCAs and the cab mount.

For the rear I would look into add-a-leaf setup or a different leaf pack. Most of the issue with the rear being bouncy/un-planted feeling is due to the OEM leaf springs. I noticed a good bit of difference in just adding the Dakar leaf springs in how the rear feels.

As for rear shocks....that seems to be a WHOLE different discussion with many differing results. Some run 5100's and are happy, some run 5160 and are happy and then some run 8100's, fox, icon or others and are happy. But then others (that seem to be way more educated in suspension than myself) say that the 5100 and 5160 (5160 is valved the same as the 5100, just with the added reservoir in simple terms) isn't really a good match for the 6112's. Those guys have had said that the 8100's, fox 2.5, icon 2.5, king 2.5 seem match the performance of the 6112 much better. The 6112 seems to be an anomaly for the price and Bilstein doesn't seem to have a reasonably priced rear shock that matches the performance well in my opinion.

I personally have the 5100 B110 in the rear because I wanted the extended down travel and I am happy with them considering the price. I know it can be better, but at this time I don't want to spend that kind of money.

So with the 5/6 notch on the front and 600 lb springs, I should not need UCA's?

There are some variables here that make this a difficult YES or NO answer.
-If your lift height is over 2.5" from stock it is highly recommended.
-If you plan on going off road frequently and/or you are hard on the truck while off road, then YES!
-If your caster is so far off that it drives bad after setting the toe and camber, then it is recommended.

It is recommended to get UCA's but not 100% necessary as 6112's maxed out generally don't raise the truck over 2.5" after settling, especially on 3rd gens. My 2nd gen is about 2.75" of lift but I expect it to settle. At this time I have the OEM UCAs because I don't get the opportunity to go off road often and I am pretty gentle and calculated when I do go off road since this is my main vehicle.

Something to consider if you get UCAs is whether to get a Uni-Ball or Sealed Ball Joint style. If you are in an area that gets snow or heavy rain I would recommend one with a Sealed Ball Joint (like SPC or JBA) as it requires very little maintenance. Uni-Ball ones require regular lubrication and can squeak, though they offer more articulation in the joint itself.

    Hey all -

I just ordered a set of 6112/5160 for my 2nd gen. It seems like the third gen folks are running different clips on the front - is that common on the second gens as well?

    Current setup
    - Rock sliders
    - Camper shell
    - Mobtown offroad front recovery bar (63 lbs)

    This is my plan:
    - 600lb springs on either 3rd clip (1.59" lift) or 4th clip (2.15" lift)
    - Stock leafs (thinking of going for an AAL, still deciding).

Is there anything that I missed? I'm waiting to see if the ECGS bushing is required after the lift.

I would do the ecgs bushing at the same time since you will have everything taken apart. The 600lb springs will give you a little lower than those numbers due to the weight. I would go with the 4th clip and with your 2nd gen, add a 1/4" top hat spacer for the lean on the driverside. An aal with the age of your stock springs would be a bad idea. Medium dakars might be a better option.

Thanks for the response. I'm looking to stay at 2" of lift or under so I think I will go with the 4th clip as suggested.

Luckily the leafs were recently replaced under warranty + my truck only has 40k on the odometer. I will look into the med. dakars

If your leafs are newer then you can go with the aal, i just was saying because you had a 2010.

Ok so advice for you all would be awesome!!
I have a 2017 4x4 long box double cab. As heavy as can be stock.
All aluminum skids back to transfer case.
    120lbs sliders.
    And 90lbs front bumper.
I run the 6112’s at 4 and 5 with the stock 600 lb springs.
Do you all think that if I just throw a 650Bill spring in there I’ll be good to go at the same height I’m at now? I like where the truck sits as is right now.

I’ve decided to go with a fox setup. Non Remote Resivor Coilovers up front, and Remote Resi shocks in the rear. Trying to decide on a leaf pack as I will be adding a bed rack, RTT, maxtrax, a full size spare, 8+ gallons of fuel, a high lift, and a fridge in the rear. Going to go with Aluminum front bumper up front, full aluminum skids, sliders and a roof rack. 650 lb springs up front. Any advice on the leafs?

I think he is asking how long until it will settle and how much will it drop when it does.

I had a very similar set up also 4x4 DCLB. 650lb springs will make the truck handle better with all the extra weight you have. 650lb spring will give roughly .5in lift from where you are now.

I have a set of 6112’s and 5160’s still in the boxes. I wanna get what I paid for them and will ship. PM if interested.
