Bilstein 6112's & 5160's with OME MD Dakars
Completely rebuilt my suspension the other week! Installed my 6112s on the 3rd notch with 650lb springs, SPC UCAs, & Precision LCAs in the front, 5160s & OMEs Medium duty Dakar leaf pack in the rear. Ended up getting ~2 3/4" lift all the way around. If you're using my post for reference, remember I have an access cab! They tend to get a lil more lift than DCSB or DCLB. Ride feels & looks great. Really happy with how it came out! Now just need some bigger tires...

Just started my build thread if you're interested: Uncle Al's 2020 Apocalypse Taco

I love the 6112/5160 combo on my 4Runner.

I have a pair of the billet reservoir clamps for the rear 5160 that I can make someone a deal on...
(They go for $42 each new.) I used them a few months on my 4Runner. 20190314_200337.jpg

I think I’m about to pull the trigger on these for my 2018 DCSB Off-road. I also have a Wheelers 3 leaf progressive leaf pack. If I want to keep a factory looking rake, what setting you guys recommend? 3/4 or 4/5?

I also plan to run an SPC UCA. I have SCS 17x8.5 w/ -10 offset. Will run my 265/70s through winter and move up to a 285/70 in spring. Hoping to get away without too much trimming but know it will be necessary.

I just installed a 6112/5160 setup on my 2020 TRDOR DCSB and on 5/6 and I have to say I'm not impressed. There's almost ZERO down travel and it's an extremely bouncy ride. I have toyo AT3 in SL 285/70/17 and the pressure is around 28 PS. I also have an allpro 1.5 progressive AAL in the rear. I have a slight bro lean and was expecting an almost completely level stance. Does the 6112 just not have any droop when at the 2" setting? When I put the truck on the ground after install, the spring compressed maybe 1/4 of an inch with the weight of the vehicle. After putting roughly 200 miles on this setup so far, there has been no improvement and the strut is topping out even on the smallest dips/bumps on the freeway.

Part numbers are correct per Bilstein, everything is assembled/installed properly, alignment is solid, and nothing looks out of place. The rear feels OK at best, but the front is almost unbearable.

    Am I missing something here?

At the 6th setting, you won’t have much down travel. Are you positive you have the standard 6112 spring?
Also, i’m surprised you describe the ride as bouncy. My factory suspension was bouncy and the 6112s are FAR more controlled. With E rated 255s at 37psi on my truck, it rides extremely well.
If you just installed them, you need to give the springs time to settle. Mine was very nose high with a 1.5” AAL when first installed. Now the front is just slightly lower than the rear.

is your truck a 4x4 or prerunner? What springs are you running?

I have the 600lb springs that are standard. I’m going to wait a bit to see if they settle and I get any type of down travel back, but I expected a better ride even straight out of the box.

EDIT: how much are these expected to settle? I do notice that I’m nose high right now. The truck is stock aside from the lift at this point.

Something isnt right. It shouldnt be maxed out with the 600 spring even at the top setting with a DC 4x4 unless you're also running spacers also? Personally I wouldn't run it at the top setting anyway. Only thing I can think of is if you torqued the LCA cam bolts while its off the ground? That can give it more tension when it's lowered. I made that mistake the first time I did it. But when you go in for alignment that shouldn't be a problem anymore regardless as long as they actually adjusted it? Any updates? EDIT If you have weight on the back end it can lighten the front also? Cant think of anything else.

No spacers. I'm also starting to regret going to the top setting. Every expert on the internet said I needed "at least" 2" of lift to comfortably run 285/70/17, so that was the only reason I set them up at the top setting.

I didn't even touch the LCA bolts until it was on the ground. Nothing was torqued until it was on the ground. I don't have anything in the bed as the lift is literally the first mod I've done with this thing. I'm gonna do a quick trail run this weekend to see if it settles. I will measure ride height prior to the run and right after to see if anything changes. I'll report back with my findings. Thanks for the replies by the way.

Just installed mine today on 6/5 setting. Took em out for a 10min drive so far and hit some notorious bumps nearby and it’s a far better ride than stock. I know it’s really soon after install but I love em so far. They react very quickly for a smooth ride

Thanks for this. Planning to do the same set up. Does help with the taco lean? And how much of a lift is it? Thanks

I got about 2” up front. When I first put them on I was up about 3” but they have already settled to 2”. I’m 23” from center of wheel to Bottom of wheel well. Yes it does help with the taco lean. I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that the 6/5 set up was designed to counter the taco lean but I could be mistaken. Ive also put the 5160’s on the rear and plan to get an AAL. Gonna go with 32” tires on 16s, hopefully no fab work will be needed. probably get some new JBA UCA’s as well.
