    Thanks

Just got a notice from Shocksurrplus that they have it available assembled. But i would like to switch out to the 650lb spring as can be done at Headstrong for the extra 0.5" lift.

What can i expect as far as ride on 6/5 650lb springs(carring no extra weight) vs the 600 on 100% pavement driving.

No down travel. They will likely be riding at close to full extension.

To be honest, it will probably ride like complete dog shit. Planning on UCAs for all that lift?

    Yes, JBA UCA.

    Thanks for your input.

So without spacers and no added weights with 600lb springs, I'm looking at a 2" lift when it settles?

If you want to confirm whether there is down travel do this measurement for the Bilstein 6112.

1- Measure from top of top hat to the center of lower bolt hole with the assembled coilover before install on the truck. (this is the limiter to max suspension down travel)

2- Install the coilover and lower the truck to the ground with full weight on front suspension

3- Now measure the top of top hat to center of lower bolt hole
(this is normal ride height of the coilover compressed with weight)

The difference (times 2) is your max down travel (droop) from normal ride height.
*Example.. if the difference between #1 and #3 is 1 1/2" , you have 3" of down travel.

I've measured the Bilstein Coilover at 22 3/8" (#1 above which is max extension) for the product I received.

The stock TRD OR coilover I removed measures 21 5/8" (3/4" shorter assembled length than the Bilstein).

Another way to think of it.. If the suspension has no down travel, you could put a jack under the front frame fail and lift your truck to get the front tire off the ground by only raising the jack 1/4".

The UCA will not provide any more down travel for the Bilsteins coilovers. You are limited by #1 above. The UCA does not increase the maximum length of the coilover. It will improve alignment issues if you go too high, eliminate coil over spring interference with the stock UCA or provide an improved upper ball joint assembly.

Wheelers Offroad had 32 pairs of front 6112s when I purchase mine on Nov 24.

I bought one of those 32. My set from them actually shipped today. My 5160s arrived Tuesday.

Agree with this and wonder if it would be better to set the Bilstein at #2 or #3 setting to retain some down travel then use a 1/2” spacer to get to a 2” total lift?

possibly, but that may increase the max extension length of the coilover to the point of requiring an aftermarket UCA to mitigate coil/UCA contact from extended droop.

Here are the pics of my Bilstein 6112 on 4th/5th clip for a Access cab, which is max lift per Bilstein specs at full droop. I currently measure ~ 1.75" height at 22.75 (hub to fender). The coil comes close to the UCA but does not make contact. IMO if the coilover assembly is made another 1/2" longer with a spacer you may need a UCA to mitigate interference.

Just went out in the garage and measured my coilover ride height #3 from my previous post. (21 1/8")

    #1 is 22 3/8"

    Difference 1 1/4" or 2 1/2" of down travel.

Wonder how this compares to stock TRD OR down travel?

I have seen(Wheeler's chart) do not use 6/5 setting on 4x2. Can I use those setting on my 4x2?
    I would prefer a 2-2.5" lift.

5/4 would net me @1.75". I might not even need UCA at that height.

I've seen mentioning Bilstein does not recommend using spacers with the lifts, but maybe thats just a CYA type thing. Headstrong gives a .25" spacer to use to correct for the taco lean.

    THIS..

That is the chart provided by Bilstein.

If you do 6/5 it will no doubt give you more lift but you will reduce your down travel since your lighter truck will not compress the coilover as much. You will be riding the coilover at closer to the max extended length which = less down travel.

No. I was at 6/5 and had no issues on or off road. My LC 100 series, now that thing has very little down travel.

    Edit: I had a 4x4 at 6/5. Didn't realize folks were talking about a 2wd. 2wd at 6/5 probably not good.

Assuming you have a completely different spec vehicle than that of the owner with the question

The question was with regard to 650 lb springs in 5/6 clip with a 2wheel drive

Bilstein recommends a max of 4/5 clip position with 600 lb springs on a 2 wheel drive.

Another easy way to measure down travel..
    - measure center hub/ fender distance with truck on level spot.
    - Raise the front of the truck to the point the front wheel comes off the ground
    - Again, measure center hub/ fender distance

    Difference is you down travel

I called and they were out. Only had the 5160 rears. I might go ahead and order with the 10% coupon and no tax. Thats money for the JBA UCA.

Another factor regarding topping out the front suspension.

Even if you have adequate down travel a poorly engineered shock absorber with inadequate rebound will top out easy.

This may not surface with a 600 lb spring, but throw on a 650 or 700 lbs spring on that same shock absorber and you may experience topping out even though you have adequate down travel. The rebound of the shock can easily control the 600 lb spring but fails to provide enough rebound on a heavier weight spring.

In the moto world, shocks have both compression (high and low speed) and rebound adjusters to finely tune the suspension for the conditions, rider weight and springs used. If more aftermarket suspension manufactures provided a rebound adjustment, the impact of spring weight could be minimized by proper adjustment (increasing rebound).

I finally got my lift done. 2020 ORDCSB with 6112 with 600 lb. spring, set at 6/5 and 5160, SPC UCAs, along with the Icon AAL. Overload removed. Been one whole day, but rides so much better than stock. Stiffer in a good way. No more nose dive at stops, less body roll on corners. I'm almost dead level as of right now, I assume the front will settle a little. Not great pics, but it's what I have atm.

Anyone know if the 5160s are longer than 5100s? I thought they were but my 5100s appear to be the longer ones here.
