soooo. the Pre fox TRD pro suspension was basically a 6112/5160. some ones selling the 4runner takeoffs with 50k miles for 100 bucks on facebook.

Everything I've seen says 4runner shocks go to Tacoma just fine, however, the TRD pro Bilsteins only have 2 perches as opposed to 6 or 12. I would need to change the front coils since 4 runner pro is 520 lb. coil. I could slap my stock coil on there, or try to find some 600 pound coils from someone upgrading to 650's. Only issue I've got is how I can determine how much lift I'll be getting since there's only two perches.

As far as I've found, TRD pro Bilstein shocks were same for Tacoma and 4 runner. I've looked for people putting those shocks onto third gens and doesnt really seem to have any documentation. Might have to message one of the vendors on this forum for some help and let em know ill buy coils thatll help me get to roughly 1.75/2 inch front gain.

Again, I'm a dumb college kid and its just an idea. figured 50k miles 6112/5160 trd branded shocks > trd offroad shocks w 50k miles.

Edit: For the life of me I cannot find spring dimensions from the 4 runner pro bilsteins.

very tempting. Those are 3x13" 600 lb ? Since theres only two perches on the trd pro bilsteins, If I go this route, adjustability is very limited and 90% reliant on the spring.

For the 6112’s shocks. Not sure of this coil will work. Maybe another member will chime in.

Alright guys, I’m planning on running the good ol 6112/5160’s. Looking to get somewhere between 2-3” lift after they settle, while retaining factory rake or even a touch more wouldn’t bother me. I have sliders on and will be installing a Demello offroad steel plate bumper at time of install. Any opinions on going with either the 600 or 650# springs?

Also, thoughts on leaf spring packs? I tow a raft trailer on occasion, haul dirt bikes, camping gear, the occasional firewood haul or other project materials. The price point of the Dakars is nice be the horror stories of sag and squeaks have kinda turned me off to them. Everyone seems to rave about the Deavers but they are expensive and without constant weight in the back I fear they my ride real hard and/or too high. The Dobinson’s seem like a decent option but I don’t hear much about them. Also in the running, the Icon Leaf pack. Gonna do the U bolt flip with Superbumps while I’m at it.

I’ve legit been researching lifts for the past 5 years and have it pretty well narrowed down aside from the springs and leaf pack. That being said, my rear shocks have finally died and it’s time to pull the trigger ASAP. Any input or firsthand experience would be appreciated. Thanks!

If this was in reference to me? No, I had not. Never even heard of them and now that I have both heard of them and looked at their website I think I will pass. Looks like they are more Subi guys. But would like to hear any thoughts.

For sure you need the 650# springs but I don't see you getting more than 2" unless you do more. My only extra weight near the front are sliders and a Prinsu. On the 10/8 setting (new Bilstein notches) and 650#s, I got ~1.5". In theory if you went max at 6/5 or 11/9, you will get another 0.3" to 0.5".

I have the Icon Leaf pack option 2 and love it. I got 2" with option 2 and I have about 250#s of permanent extra weight.

    So my experience was:
    • Less than advertised lift up front with 6112 and 650 springs
    • More than advertised in back with Option 2 and 250 pounds extra weight
0 sagging after 3 months of use and it rides like a dream. Just set realistic expectations on how much > 2" lift you can get from this setup in the front if you have extra weight. You can get 2.5" if you have no weight, max the settings on 6112s, and use 650# springs.

I wouldn't touch these things with a 10ft pole... Looks like the ReadyLift 3" which is essentially a spacer built into the top hat. They might clean up fine, but if you're looking to save a dollar or two anything you're saving here is going to be spent on buying new UCAs so that you could reel that truck back into alignment.

How much additional weight are you carrying?

Also, ride quality is very subjective. You'll generally hear from folks on here that their 6112s ride great, but they're also the same people who are recognizing nose-dive during braking and getting tossed off to the side in smaller bumps with the OEM suspension. Other folks will find the ride to be a little "stiff" because when they're hitting a speed bump at 10mph it will likely feel a little firmer than OEM. Hit that same speed bump at 30-40 though and I assure you you'll be able to tell a difference :D

If you're going with a plate bumper I am going to recommend the 650# springs same as @BattleKat is running.

As for spring packs I can recommend either the Deavers or the Icon RXTs. I've personally run Dakars on my '05 Tacoma and they rode rough and sagged on a truck that didn't even have any weight in the bed. We sell quite a lot of Icon RXT packs out of Hotshot Offroad HQ here and of all of the sets we have ever sold I have fielded "1" statement from a customer about them being too firm. Everyone else has loved them.

Side note - We have everything in stock here at Hotshot Offroad so you shouldn't be left waiting. We don't have Superbumps specifically, but we run, sell, and recommend Durobumps flip kits and bumpstops.

thanks for input, If I got those the spacer would come off, but looks like bottom bushing needs replaced anyway.

Do you have Dimensions of the Stock TRD pro bilstein coil? See other quoted post. Found an alternative that could work if I’m able to find some replacement coils. I assume you sell many different size and weight rating coils.

i also haven’t been able to figure out for those Pro bilsteins, what perch they’re equivalent to on the normal 6112. If I can do that I’m sure I can find what size and weight coils I’d need to accomplish desired lift.

or I just wait another 6 months and buy em new. But I wanna wheel this fall before mountains are snowed in lol

    Stock-ish
Heres how my truck sits with the stock 14" 600lb bilstein coils (on Fox coilovers, but assume its the same as the max Bilstein clip preload wise). 35s, slightly trimmed fenders, heavy bumper, winch with synthetic, beefy skids, etc. Probably 1-1.5" of lift over stock for reference. Think I'm going to pick up a pair of 6112's, just for a longer maintenence period until I go straight axle.

Thanks for the responses all, much appreciated. Looks like I'm set on the 650# springs and Icon stage 2 leaf pack. @memario1214 I checked out your guys website, do you offer the shocks pre assembled and/or with the 650# spring? I didn't see an option for either.

A couple final questions, anybody who has run on the top notch hows the ride? Should I bother with UCA's? I kinda want them but in reality they are probably unessesary, however I don't wanna deal with alignment issues either.

and sorry, I'm sure this has all been covered a million times over, I just wanna make sure I do this right the first time and needed a little nudge to pull the trigger.

I got new UCAs (Billstein's with Dirt King caps) and did the ECGS bushings just for peace of mind.

If you want to run in the top notch, get some UCAs. Definitely worth it. Saves ball joints and tires.

Buy once cry once. I had 600# springs and set at 5 on both sides. Started sagging a bit so I went 650# on 6. Glad I just bought UCA’s before hand

IMO get UCA’s you’ll be glad you did. Top notches 650 coils and riding excellent. Full steel skids , sliders. 2” of lift. It’s a daily as well

I see limit straps hiding in there... What are you running now in terms of lower arms and shocks? We also have those 6112s on hand should you decide to go down that path :spy:
    https://hotshotoffroad.com/collecti...s/bilstein-6112-coil-strut-combo-16-22-tacoma
We do offer assembly! I'll shoot you a PM and we can work through details, and I'll work on getting the website cleaned up today to give that option for anyone into the future. We built some 6112s with 650# springs for @ksimms92 just a couple of weeks back!

Here's my .02 on the UCA discussion (and feel free to put your tin foil hat on since I am a retailer after all) - When folks lift +2" and/or run a really big wheel+tire combo we generally recommend them for clearances. As @Scott B. indicated you're also putting yourself in a position to have some better tire life and on-road manners as you can dial in specs. We offer many different brands, but we tend to recommend SPC as they offer the greatest amount of adjustability and fall on the lower end of maintenance cycles. We have been able to get 33s underneath a Tacoma without having to cut the cab mount.
