I’ve heard of a couple people doing it. For the price of a couple quality cans of clear coat it’s worth the try. Looks better then having brown shocks like I do currently

Yea, I'm still debating on what to do. I was hoping they'd just send the new version out and I could send them back the old version when I get back from vacation. They're wanting me to send these back first or just reorder, though...it'll be a hassle either way, and I don't have a lot of confidence they'd send the correct ones anyway.

I'll probably just stick with these to avoid the headache/delay and move them to the 6/5 notches if I don't get enough lift up front.

So who has these in stock and ready to ship? Thinking 5160's for the rear and Icon AAL. Would I need uppers right away too?

We have ONE set of Gen 2 5160s on the shelf and a couple sets of Gen 2 6112s on the shelf ready to ship here at Hotshot Offroad. If you don't lift the front greater than 2" you don't need to get new uppers.

Is there a way to let you know what clip settings to install at if the assembly option is selected?

Yes. During checkout there is a “Notes to Seller” section which would work perfectly.

What leaf springs did you go with? And, Where did you pick up the 6112's?

I have seen a few places that are selling with the standard 600# coils, but not just the shocks. I think I want to go with Icon RXT's in rear.

Aren't the 2nd gen shocks the older version?

Not 2nd gen Tacoma. Those are the newer (2nd version) of the 5160's. You can read the description of them in the link in the post above. Slightly different valving and no longer side specific I think.

@MGMDesertTaco nailed it. The "Gen 2" shocks are not necessarily for Gen 2 trucks. They're just the second generation of the 6112s and 5160s so they got a couple of small updates! The new ones are actually not even 2nd/3rd gen Taco specific. There's only one SKU now for 05+.

So, I guess I’ll contribute to this thread.

I have about 40-45k miles on my 6112s. Getting some noise up front. Turns out my bushing on the bottom is shot. The bottom one that secures the shock to the lower control arm. Anyone change just the bushing? I know they sell they bushing separately. Just curious if anyone on this forum did it themself, and have any tricks?

not my picture, but I have a similar issue.

The bushing is a Toyota part.

I was going to change mine, but ended up getting a new set of shocks.

EDIT: the did have 100K miles on them...

I know a couple guys who just rented a ball joint press from autozone. Looking to do this myself soon, doesn't look to be too difficult

I did mine about a year ago and used a ball joint press. Bushings were for a 2015 TRD Pro IIRC. I expect mine will go bad again soon as they just don’t hold up.

I’m considering getting the 6112/5160 + 1.5” Icon AAL lift from suspensionlifts.com and I’m confused by the clip setting graph on their website vs what I’ve read in this thread. I’m not running any extra front end weight and probably won’t be for some time. I’d prefer to have a slight rake to level setup. If the AAL lifts the rear 1.5”, it looks like (based on their graph) that I would need a 9/7 or 10/8 clip setting, but I’ve seen conflicting info here and elsewhere. Could someone point me in the right direction? I appreciate the help. D5B4CB20-8D0F-4E7E-94D2-AA2AA7300BB2.jpg
