Question for all the 6112 Gurus out there:

I’ve had 6112s installed on my truck for a few years now, the older version with less clip settings. Loved them, wouldn’t change a thing.
Long story short, I got in an accident a week ago (somebody failed to yield to me) that messed up my front driver side suspension, so I’ll need new front shocks/struts. Looking at the newer 6112s with more clip settings, I want the lift in the front to be the exact same as I had before. My old 6112s were set at 5/4 for 1.5” of lift. I’m guessing I Should set the new ones at 9/7? That lists as 1.4” of lift. Tempted to go 10/8 for more lift, as I have Dobinsons heavy duty leafs in the back, but I want to keep a rake because I often load up with lots of gear and I have a GFC on the back.

    Any advice is appreciated!

This the part number I’d use for a 2021? Was looking at 6112/5160 kit from Shock Surplus for $1119. Anyone know where I can get the best deal for just the rears to combine with this deal? Only looking to do .5-1” lift in rear, would 5100 be good enough or worth the upgrade to do 5160?

Rockauto has 6112/5100 has the set for just under $800 vs lowest cost set I found for 6112/5160 set I can find is $1120. Worth the upgrade for +$320??? Rareee light offroading, mainly daily highway commuter. Looking around 1.5” front & .5” ish rear lift.

Personally, I think rare light offroading is a call for 5100s in front. Spend your shock money on rears if you run empty bed or light load to eliminate more vibration.

You’re probably looking at Gen 2 6112s and Gen 1 5160s for that price on SS. I’d be happy to match anything they can offer. Shoot me a message here or give me a call at Hotshot Offroad 406-936-0206 and we’d be happy to walk through all of the options with you at a good OTD price.

You’d be amazed at how often I’m trying to convince folks with a bunch of weight over the rear axle to use available budget on the rear vs the front. They admittedly don’t look as good most of the time though!

According to the Bilstein instructions, 10/8 will give me 1.7” of lift. I want it to stay closer to what I had before (1.5”). I guess I could go for 10/8, but if I stick with the lower 9/7 and get 1.4” it should ride a bit better.
My dobinsons leaf pack lifts my rear about 2.25, and I want to keep my rake. Hmmmm, decisions decisions. Does anybody have an experience on how different the ride is on a DCSB between 10/8 and 9/7??

Good information on here, this weekend if all goes well I’ll be installing a set of 6112s on 11/11 both passenger and driver with 650lb springs. Doing the ecgs bushing while I have the front apart. Also adding some JBA uca and sway bar drop bracket. For the rear I am adding OME El112r heavy springs with 5160s . I’ll add some pictures of the before and after and ride quality differences. I’ll post updates.

From a ride quality perspective you aren’t going to notice a difference. They’re both within acceptable ranges of travel.

You probably won't need the sway bar drop brackets.

I ran mine at 5 (top setting of the old style) for years, with 600# springs, and never had any issues with the factory sway bar mount. Make sure you need it before you install it.

Of course, now I run 650# springs and no sway bar, but that's not question here... :p

How do you like it without the sway bar? Big difference in control?

This is a very controversial subject, so I will reply with my opinion.

Without the sway bar, the truck rides smoother, on and off road. The suspension is able to move, and absorb the bumps in the road. There is a little more body roll, so that takes a little getting used to. As long as you don't drive it like a race car, there shouldn't be any issues.

I have had to make an emergency maneuver at speed on the interstate, towing a trailer, and the truck handled it with ease. I did not notice any ill handling.

Without the sway bar, the suspension is true IFS.

Try it. If you don't like it, re-install the sway bar.

I’d second this. The truck rides much smoother without the sway bar on-road and especially off-road (less head toss). Once you get used to the slightly increased body roll it’s hard to go back to a sway bar equipped truck IMO

Alright, I got the lift installed last Friday into Saturday. Everything went fairly well, the ECGS bushing was a little bit of a pain but ended up going well. I got everything on the truck that I intended except the drive shaft spacer kit, no vibs so I don't think I'll need it. The before measurements are what follows. This is after driving it around for most of the week and getting things settled in. I'll have pictures below, along with alignment specs in the pdf.

    Passenger Front - 20 3/4
    Passenger Rear - 21
    Driver Front - 20 1/2
    Driver Rear - 20 3/4

    - After

    Passenger Front - 23 5/8
    Passenger Rear - 24 3/8
    Driver Front - 23 1/2
    Driver Rear - 24 1/2

    - Overall

Difference Front - Roughly 3 inches
Difference Rear - Roughly 4 inches

I'm in the boat to re-do my suspension again.
Soft in the rear. That won't be a problem, already have a a set of leafs, but, they'll jack me up 3" at 500lbs, have some 5160s to help, and some HammerHangers.
It's the front I'm trying to sort. Thinking 6112s, with 650s.
I have cap, toolbox and an additional 100lbs in the bed. Steel bumper in rear, plus 2 swing I need to mount.
Sliders, skids(currently aluminum front to rear), SSO winchbumper and winch.
Got so much on here, it looks almost back to stock again....

Anyway, am I on the right track here? How far up can I really go with these? I'm good with rake, but, I don't want it to look like a damn stink bug either...

With the Bilsteins on the top clip and 650 pound coils with no added weight to my truck I’ve got about an inch of rake from the back to front. When I have my tent, topper and all my gear in the bed I’ll have about 600 pounds constant load. I haven’t put a load on mine with the new setup, I will be doing that this coming weekend so I can let you know about where it puts me for ride height.

I’ve got the ome el112r heavy pack. It gave me over 3 inches of lift even with a topper.

Well... You're definitely a candidate for at least a single step upgrade in the front in terms of weight due to the new bumper/winch/skids. I'm on the fence of saying that you "might" even want to look into a 700# spring.

However, for the rear are you saying that at 500# of static load you will be resting at +3" over stock? If so, is this going to be the place which you would like to be most of the time? I have my concerns that your 5160s might not be up to the task in the length department so your downtravel would be nil.

Yeah, hence where I'm digging. What I'm running now, is a set of 650s in some 5100s. A 3 leaf AAL in the rear w/ 5100s.
I acquired through a friend, a new Allpro expedition leaf pack, and 5160s( I need to getthe P/N). They SAY 3in @ 500lbs.

I'll be adding HammerHangers at the same time, extended brake lines in the rear, etc.
Just tripping over the front. I do have a set 700# springs here for the 5100s, but, I'm either g warned it'll be super rough.

    I'm chasing my tail....
