Trying to figure out what stock Tacoma shocks (front) are better. Hitachi or Bilstein. My procomp shocks are toast. I have a pair of both the stock bilstein and hitachi but I can't decide wich ones to put on.

I have had nothing but positive experiences with Billstein. There are many others on here who have written the same.

I've never even heard of Hitachi shocks. Can't help there.

If you have a set of the black oem take offs that came on the sr5's and base models, i believe those are called tokico. I think the blue ones that come on the 3rd gen sports are hitachi though

Are these used shocks? Without knowing how many miles are on them it is impossible to say which is better.

Yah the Bilsteins have 4k on them and the hitachis have 1k. Im tempted to go with the Bilsteins because of quality, but the Hitachis because of the lower mileage?

Either way 3,000 additional miles is nothing. I wasn't even aware Hitachi made shocks until Toyota started using them on the 3rd gen Sports. 100% you should go with the Billies.

The factory where they are made is in the town that I l live in. I can neither confirm nor deny that the "Bilstein" TRD shocks and the black "Tokico/Hitachi" shocks all run down the same line. The "Bilstein" shocks may be a little different but I doubt it's anything drastic. Most likely the internal valving is different.

Whichever ones looked to be in the best shape. Check the bushings, compress one or two of each and see how the rebound is then go with the ones that give you the warm and fuzzy.

You think the performance between the two is similar enough to just choose the ones in the best shape?

Yes, there's not enough difference in them for you to even notice.

    Bilsteins.
Toyota did a tsb where the black tokiko shocks were replaced with the Bilsteins. I think it was part of the first leaf spring tsb for the harsh ride.
