    Haha thanks!

My justification, or theory I tell people when they ask is why the hell would I pay a lot of money for something I would use?

I work with a guy that has a dually dodge 3500, and has never towed anything.

I have nothing against spending money. But I can't stand wasting it.

About half the 10k on my truck so far has been towing, the other half has been my daily commute. I haven't done any extensive wheeling with this one, I am building a new toy to wheel but I like exploring back roads and trails when I find them.

Same for me. I've hauled lumber, mulch, landscaping stones, gone on road trips, and the awesome daily commute. I have done some pretty difficult wheeling and have the pinstripes and dented/scraped skids and rock rails to show for it...along with a pretty good scuff/small dent at the bottom back of the cab on the driver's side. People think I'm crazy, but I got the truck to use it as a truck, and as an offroad vehicle. I'm happy with its performance thus far, and the few mods I've done have served me well.

I have managed only 2 small scratches, a door ding at work and a small dent in the tailgate from who knows what. But I have hauled the standard array of junk (standard for me at least)

I also managed to break the trailer plug off, good excuse to move it :) and a little scuff and dent in the stupid tube step. Or one time rock sliders as I have been known to call them.

That and gold paint splattered all over under the truck. J think I hit a can of spray paint in a field playing.

Trans clean and ready to install. Redline mt-90 filled.

I just need a flywheel now. Waiting for an answer from Toyota now. Should here back early next week.

Common sense and mechanical knowledge says they should warranty it, its clear I have not caused damage to the clutch. No matter I will update you guys, and when I get my parts back I will take pictures of the clutch and flywheel etc, so you can all see in case anyone has a similar situation. 20151106_194103.jpg

KROG, I noticed that you got the URD clutch kit. I have an 09 6-spd off-road with 74k miles and finally now experiencing the chirping throwout bearing. I've explored Toyota and my extended warranty replacing it and they both won't. Is that normal for warranties? So now I've been looking into getting the URD Clutch/Flywheel Combo here

    http://urdusa.com/store/Trans,-Clut...L-V6-w/6-speed-transmission/product_info.html

    I have a few questions:
    1) Am I correct in thinking I won't need more than the Stage 2 upgrade, pulling no more than a light fishing boat 5 months out of the year 1 or 2 times a week?
    2) Is that lightweight flywheel that comes with the combo good to do?
    3) Should I get the extra ARP bolts?
    4) Most importantly, when you are selecting to buy this combo, you can use the dropdown options to get the throwout bearing for and extra $190. After much research, it sounds like Toyota sucks at this design and many are solving the issue with this repair/upgrade bearing kit. Do you suggest getting this and through this link if you select the bearing as an added option, do they include the entire kit as seen here?:

    http://urdusa.com/store/Trans,-Clut...IT,-2005+-Tacoma-V6-6-Speed/product_info.html

Thanks for any help. It's very frustrating that the new Tacomas have this bearing issue and won't help their prideful patrons with the replacement.

I'm not a fan of red (ish) vehicles. That being said I love that color ( Inferno ) on the Tacoma!

    Nice truck!

So you are correct, I ordered the URD clutch kit. The disk itself had a competition clutch sticker for thats worth. It all looks nice!.

The only reason I went to the 3, is because I am supercharged and use my truck heavily. And that is what Gadget recommended when I called him. I also like a little bit heavy anyway. But I strongly considered the stage 2. My trailer is about 2000 lbs empty, and generally in the 5k range loaded

Toyota almost always denies warranty for clutch stuff. The exception is TSB for throwout bearing, and I believe you fall in the years. Although on my 2008 they did not even consider it.

The quill is aluminum, which means it gets worn by the steel bearing when you shift, the sleve adds a thin steel sleeve over it to eliminate the problem. The biggest reason to do the repair kit is short of a new trans its the only way to improve or repair that wear on the quill that is feasible.

In the URD menu, the 190 bearing option is in fact the 225 dollar repair kit. It comes with the sleeve, some grease and the bearing. You just get a discount by bundling.

I got the pressure plate bolts, just because I wasn't sure what I was going to find. They are cheap and can't hurt but they are not needed. However the crank bolts at 55 bucks are not needed! The bolts are not a "torque to yield" bolt so it should be fine to re-use them.

I did not get the flywheel, I couldn't really find a good answer for that myself so I aired on the side of safety. The lighter flywheel could potentially make towing worse, but may not hurt. I just figured I am not racing it there is no need to take the gamble.

    So
yes I would say stage 2 should be fine
No I would skip the bolts unless you want them
yes you want 190 bearing kit
Toyota really is great about some things but not others haha.

Well I got word back from Toyota, they are not going to warranty anything. Here are the parts that came off, this clutch has been slipping almost 3k miles.

Flywheel looked exactly like the pressure plate, minimal discoloration from slipping but nothing like I expected. No hot spots, no real wear on the disk.20151112_184141.jpg20151112_184155.jpg20151112_184224.jpg20151112_184232.jpg20151112_184248.jpg20151112_184316.jpg20151112_184332.jpg20151112_184347.jpg

    I would, hell yes haha.

But seriously that is up to you, if you can do the work you can have a much better setup for less than 1k.

I myself am pissed, I understand that its considered a wear item and normally not covered. But basically Toyota is saying there is no expectations for reliability, its on you even if its not. I am only pissed because this is a brand new truck, my 4th brand new Toyota and the clutch, without any obvious fault of use, or driving has failed. After 9k miles on a 40k truck there shouldn't even be a question, the should replace it without question unless they took it apart and its clearly been thrashed by you.

Thanks!! Its a good looking lawn ornament right now. While I drive my 85 that keeps on going.

I might just let it sit for a while, I am pretty angry about this deal with Toyota. The whole thing has been a mess.

There was only one thing I disliked so far about the URD parts, the powder coated pressure plate looks nice however when they assembled if the powder coat flaked on the forks where they bend it.

Overall I don't see it being a problem, I just knocked the flakes off and blew out the crumbs. 20151113_154730.jpg

And for what its work the throwout bearing with sleeve is the same part number as the stock one in my truck. Its been modified to fit over the sleeve. 20151113_155140.jpg20151113_155143.jpg20151113_155134.jpg

Getting perfect alignment with the clutch tool sucked, not sure what the difference was. My guess is because its sqaured off without the input bearing like normal its just hard to make it perfect. Anyway that took about 20 minutes.

Sticking the trans by myself was actually a breeze, lined her up and in like butter. 20151113_170553.jpg

Got her all put together! Have to say, I love the clutch. Deleted the "clutch accumulator valve" as toyota calls it, clutch delay valve for other manufacturers. It really made the pedal feel better! I had my flywheel resurfaced as I can't afford a new one and Toyota skimped out on me.

My Tacoma has never shifted better, between the new clutch, valve delete and redline MT-90 in the trans its a whole world of difference!
