It's a fitment issue. They don't line up correctly, trust me I tried.

Anyone have any success painting their grey hazard button black? Seems ridiculous to have to replace the whole clock/hazard unit just to get a black button. Not much luck on car-part.com and new is about $300.

That looks like a ton of work. I only want to do the hazard button. Not the climate controls. It's worth the money to buy replacement climate controls but not so much for just a single button.

I get it. I paid probably somewhere around $85ish to finish this mod. I bought a used climate control unit a few years ago from eBay. Thats the way to go IMO, salvage title parts.

You could always put out a ISO and see if anyone has those buttons laying around. That's how I found a black hazard switch.

I just tried to build the harness last night and did not have much luck. Couple questions: The A16 connector looks to be numbered as if your looking at it from the wire input side (this one you can tell because it is not symmetrical, top row has 3 pin outs on the left and 2 on the right). The A33 connector is symmetrical so it's hard to tell what side of the connector is pictured below. So I wired it as if looking at it from the wire input side like the A16. No dice. Then I rewired the A33 as if the pic below is viewed from the pin out side and I got lights but nothing else worked. Only the fan speed worked but that's not even part of this harness. What am I missing? Also, the A33 connector and pins are really small and don't seem to push into the connector easily. Can't even tell which way to orient the pins in the connector as the pin end is square.

    Hey Keith! @KeithB

Let's see if I can help, it's been a awhile since we made the harness's. I'm a little rusty..

So starting off here's a few things to note from the pages I listed at the top of this thread:

Follow this guide if you can (we adjusted a couple placements):

    Screenshot_20221019_102428.jpg

I remember we had this issue:

Here's what the finished product should look like:

    Screenshot_20221019_102726.jpg

Your pins should looks like these. I've heard stories of people being sent the wrong pin size.

    Screenshot_20221019_102652.jpg

Pins lay down. Get the wire far down and snug to the end of the pin to promote contact. Make sure the male/female pins are making contact when the harness is plugged in. This was an issue I had, the LEDs wouldn't illuminate, I realized after a bit that the pins weren't touching.

    Screenshot_20221019_103721.jpg

This can be a frustrating mod or a easy one. Everyone is different. If you want, I can pull my harness and take pictures. Let me know!

Thanks for the reply. Those look like the pins I have. And also looks like I have the right wires in the correct slots. Does it make sense to you about what I said about the two connectors being different view points in the picture here?

    upload_2022-10-19_14-31-3.jpg

I crimped the bare wire and then the wire insulation on each pin. Although I did not insert the wire all the way to the end of the pin where you marked END above. I thought the metal of the pin would make contact when plugged in and that the wire only needed to be in contact with the crimped part of the pin. Maybe that's my problem. I will try again. Good thing I bought two of each.

As for the orientation of the pin in connector, I'm still not clear. You said the pins lay down. So the connector A33 above has two channels running through it above pin slot 1,2 and 7,8. Do the crimp tabs (circled below) face up to the channels in the connector or down away from the channels?

Yup, I get it. The view in the graph is referencing the side you insert the pins/wires.

    20221019_115341.jpg

I'm heading into a ball game, i apologize if I miss a question. Just make sure the wire has good contact to the pin, that's all I'm trying to say. Don't push the wire to the end tip :)

I had my girlfriend take a few pictures for you to see how things lay.

** Don't mind the wire placement, this was a practice harness ***

Is the small tab circled in green a wire crimp point or is it there to retain the pin in the connector?

Thanks, have yet to try again. Ordered another smaller crimper, should be delivered tomorrow. I think the one I was using was fine for the A16 connector but the A33 is just so tiny.

Right on. A terminal removal tool also comes in handy if you don't already have one.

Finally tried again and got everything working right. Thanks Theo for all your help. Now to take the controls apart and see if I can insert orange tint film to make the lights orange to match the rest of my dash. Too bad it's not a simple bulb change like the older models. I know everyone likes the white lights better but I still prefer the orange dash, always have.

Not having very good luck with the color matching of the lights. I tried doing orange spray tint over the clear light tunnel. That was ok but still allowed the white light to shine through around it and I got a mix of orange and white icons. Then added orange tint film over the white LED's and that ended up much too dark. So I removed the spray tint on the light tunnel and tried just the tint film and better but still too dark. Have to find a lighter colored tint film.
