Hey real quick, with the diagram of the a33 connector, are we looking at it from the front or the backside here?



Cuz I’ve either got pin 4 going to pin 11 here or I’ve got pin 4 going to 14. So which is it lol



I think that’s the way it goes based on this photo I found from the guy who made harnesses awhile back…



so I think I’ve got in in the proper pin to match 4 to 11, but then we’d be looking at the backside of A16 and the front side of A33, so I just want to make sure that’s right.

 

I might have a photo of mine somewhere. I’ll hunt. I have a template but it’s at the shop and I’m 10 miles away and the shop is 90 degrees.



Ignore the dongle part, failed attempt to invert voltage on the temp controls revealed that resistance is what is measured instead.

 

that would be great thanks, also what crimper are you using for these? i dont usually work on stuff with pins this small. so i bought a crimper with a 1.6mm and 2.0mm on it, but the 2mm die doesnt fully crimp the back tabs so they wont fit in the connector, and the 1.6mm die keeps cutting my wire or breaking these little pins. granted im using 18 gauge, i thought i could get away with it by removing a few strands, i even did the proper math, or rather had AI do it for me after getting a stand count on my 18g wire:


1. Cross-sectional area of 18 AWG:
Approx. 0.823 mm²

2. Cross-sectional area of 20 AWG:
Approx. 0.519 mm²

3. Assume all 16 strands are equal in size
Then each strand in 18 AWG is:
0.823 mm² ÷ 16 ≈ 0.0514 mm² per strand

4. How many strands to match 20 AWG?
0.519 mm² ÷ 0.0514 mm² ≈ 10.1 strands

So you'd need to keep about 10 strands, and remove 6 strands.

But i still had to shave the insulation down to fit the connector holes anyhow so this is also a bad solution.

I'm going to order proper 20 gauge wire and re order my connectors and have another go at it. I had all the wires too short anyhow to comfortably weave them, so overall this was just a miserable failure. ahm, learning experience i mean. these tiny pins are a real PIA! After two hours I still can't figure out how to even get them to push into the a33 connector. I have started a whole other thread on that tho...

 

I used 20 gauge. I have at least 20 different crimpers but for 20 I tend to prefer my Iwiss orange ones. I did buy the eastern beaver crimpers but not sure I’ve tried them even once yet.

if life circumstances had been a little different, I might have been game to try to produce these. As it stands, getting pre crimped leads at roughly correct length would be killer, then just add colored heat shrink and get the positions right. Unfortunately I lost my connection to a factory who might have been able to do that. If someone else is able to line up a purchase, I could warehouse and produce that way, I just don’t have bandwidth to consider hand crimping more of these because it’s so tedious for me.

 

Just want to confirm that this is the correct pin out? I’m about to finish my new much longer harness lol thanks guys

top (white connector) is for the later model black ac unit, bottom is the factory early model connector.

also someone tipped me off you can buy the wires pre crimped with the pins on from Toyota apparently? Wish I’d known, but I muddled through it.
