Just did the black headlight mod today. I really took my time and I am happy with it.

I followed the instruction in this thread, almost to the letter, and mine turned out great. It is a bit of pain to get the lense off the housing, but taking my time and some patience they came apart.
Anyone thinking of doing this, but doesn't trust themselves needs to just jump in and try it.

I just finished mine a few minutes ago. Took a total of about 6 hours.

I painted mine to match my paint instead of painting them black...... Speedway Blue..... It looks awesome. Can't wait to post some pics of all my recent mods.

OK, so here are my BHLM pics, only this time, the "B" stands for BLUE. In a few of the shots, it looks like the paint is darker than the OEM color, but it's only the way the sun is reflecting off of the paint. You can really see the paint color match well in the last photo.

My tint is on the outside of the lens, but it has 4 coats of clear over the tint spray. It better not come off.......

I tried it yesterday. there was a ton of silicon adhesive in my lights and they would not come apart. Tried to pry them apart for about an hour and a half turned up the heat and everything. I decided the heck with it and I bought projectors instead.

Too bad you coldn't get them open. I had my stove at 200 and let them sit for about 20 min but I kept a close watch on them and they came apart pretty easy. I am sure you will be happy with the Projectors and you can probably sell your stock headlights to someone who torched theirs in the oven.

I had a hard time getting mine apart as well. I started out at 200 degrees for 6 minutes and they just wouldn't come apart. I increased the temp to 225 and left them in for 8 minutes. That did the trick.

One thing to remember...... keep a small flat screwdriver handy as you pull them apart to lift/unlock the tabs around the headlight. If you don't unlock the tabs they will never come apart.

    Hi,

Did everyone sand the chrome? I just bought Krylon fusion. It says no sanding and priming needed.

I wet sanded the chrome with 600 grit wet/dry paper. It's a very thin coating and comes off very easy.

I'm thinking of doing this mod, but am wondering how many of you guys that did this reused the sealant or removed the OEM sealant and replaced it with silicon Was there was any moisture issues with both methods of sealing up the light?

I reused the OEM sealant. No moistures issues so far for me.

I did my BHLM today and and very very pleased with the new look. However I had some trouble getting the passenger-side painted frame into the cover....and ended up breaking a piece off the frame :(.....as well as getting some oem sealent on the paint . The driver-side went in perfect since I did that one next lol. I am going to buy another headlight to do the passenger side again.

As far as baking goes...at first I did 9 minutes at 300 degrees, and it wouldn't budge. I put it back in for 15 minutes and they pulled right out with no problems. I also sanded as much chrome off as possible. It took a while but better safe than sorry I say. I also used Rustoleum Universal in flat black.

    Here are some pics....

When I painted the badges on my truck, I skipped the sanding and just used some adhesion promoter. Anybody tried this yet?
