    Hey guys thought I'd share my oil analyis from Blackstone. I have a 2010 Prerunner double cab 4.0L. Im using Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 and the Toyota 90915-YZZD3 Filter. I have a daily commute of 150 miles, so the mileage is about 90% highway. The OCI was at 5,000mi.

    Nice Report. What type of oil and air filter are you using and the mileage on the Tacoma?

    Higher than normal copper may be because the mileage is low and the engine is still breaking in. Usually Blackstone will reference that in the initial paragraph.

    Should smudge out PII like address, phone, name.

    Are you going to run it for an extended drain? It looks like the analysis says to check back in 6000miles but they didn't to a TBN analysis.

    The oil has 5K on it but the unit (vehicle) has 32k on it. Hardly break in.

    I just relooked at the report. Yup 32K s all broken in. I would not worry about the high copper unless it shows an even wider gap at the next sample.

    I have my oil samples taken all the time. I also have a GM 3800 engine which traditionally have high copper readings.

    The silicon being low and no water or antifreeze in the oil are major pluses.

    I just went to that link and requested a sample kit. I'm going to send in mine when I hit the 30K mark. My OCI is 10K miles. I want to see if I should back that down or if I'm fine to leave it there.

    I would be interested in the results. I was never to go over 7.5K and feel comfortable with the results in a GM 3800 engine or over 5K with a GM 4.3L engine.

    This is my 1st Tacoma in a very long time and it would be nice to know that 10K is doable.

    I'll tuck this post away in my mental file cabinet. It'll be a few more months before I reach 10K on this oil. But I'll be sure to reference this post and let you know the results when I do receive them.

    When I had my 2004 Maxima I also used the 10K OCI and never seemed to have any problems with the oil. Granted, that wasn't a scientific observation. It's just that my oil always looked great at the time of oil changes. I was able to go through 4 separate 10K OCIs on that car.

    For reference, I use M1 5W-30 full synthetic and a high capacity M1 filter.

    I really think 10K oci's are safe with most synthetic oils, but even petroleum oils but with less margin. The real limiter is the TBN...total base number. It's a measure of how much buffer the additive package has to deal with corrosives that accumulate.

    Many modern synthetics are designed for extended drain and have a very heavy dose of additives that provide a healthy TBN...if you use one of those oils you're probably very safe for 10k, and 15k or more with UOA's like OP did.

    Mobil1 Extended drain and Penn Platinum are two of them that are widely available.

    More and more OEM's are increasing drain intervals under warranty too...Toyota has starting with 2010 Camry's I noticed.

    Do you have the tow pack on your truck? If so I think your slightly elevated copper is due to the auxilliary water-to-oil cooler leaching copper into the oil. It will likely trend down for 50-60k miles before flattening out. If you had a bearing issue that copper would generally be accompanied by traces of both lead and tin. Good report!

    Thanks...yes it does have the Tow Package. I regret not doing the TBN analysis, I will do that on my next one.

    I have been using Red Line 5W-30 with a K&N filter changing every 5K miles. I am coming up on 20K and would like to extend the oil drain a little.

    As promised, I have returned to post the results from my Blackstone Labs Oil Analysis report.

    I put ~8,500 on the analyzed in this report. My plan was to go to 10,000 miles, but I got curious (anxious) and wanted to see how it was doing. Needless to say, I'll be going to 10,000 in the future since all appears to be in order with the engine according to the report.

    Very good report. Some engines spit copper more than others. GM 5.3 are known for this also. I would do a TBN and stretch that OCI longer. I own a 97 GMC with a 5.7 and run 8K OCI or 1 year whichever comes first.
