Here’s how I mounted my dash cam

I bought a bike handle bar mount of a go pro and then machined 2 pieces of steel to use as a linkage between the female GoPro mount to the female GoPro buckle. It’s been working out great and only came out to less than 30 bucks

 

I can see your SSID, PW & Cloud code. You should blur that out.

 

I considered putting it behind the headrest, but I felt that that would negatively impact viewing area, since now it has to look past the back of the cab.

+1. My reasons exactly. I hardly notice it's there.

 

My rear camera is mounted in the center of the window in my A.R.E. shell. I considered mounting it to one side, thinking that it would be less likely to get impacted when loading and unloading of the bed, but it really cut off the video. I put it back in the center, and will look at building a lexan cage around it.

 

How'd you route the power cable back there? Down through a gasket on the exterior, routed with other cabling, up through a bed cubby? Did you have to get a longer cable or an extension? I can't recall if the provided cable is long enough.

 

The cable that came with mine was plenty long enough to get to the rear window with a nice bundle that needed to be tucked away. I initially had this in my 2018 but have only installed the front camera on my 2019. I'll get around to running the rear cable one of these days and I guess what's not got me too motivated to do that is that I've had the rear windows tinted really dark and I'm not too sure how well it will work through that tint. I had a slight tint on the 2018 and I had to crank the brightness all the way up or it looked like night. I guess I could just connect it without going through all of the cable hiding just to see how it will look. Maybe this week end.

 

Mine is like this, but a bit lower.
It looks out the back through the canopy but gives good coverage of all cargo.

 

I bought their 10m cable, and routed it into the overhead on the passenger side, down the pillar, along the floor track, through the grommet in the body at the back wall of the truck (i melted a small hole in the center, and shoved the connector through, then sealed it with putty tape) then through some expandable wire sleeve, up through the existing hole in the front floor of the bed, up along the shell ledge, to the back window frame, to the camera, mounted at the top of the window.

 

If you're talking about running the cable to the back of the bed/camper shell, like I did, the 6m stock cable isn't long enough (it's ~2 meters too short.)

 

I was talking about to the rear window and at that length there was a fair amount of cable leftover, but yeah, I doubt it would reach to the back of the bed with a camper on board.

 

Right, but CAG Gonzo was asking if I bought a longer cable, or was using an extension; to get it back to the rear window of my shell.

How many hours will s dr900s 2ch run with the pmp? Im undecided in going this route or the battery pack. My commute to work is only about 20 mins so the battery will never fully charge. Kind of defits the purpose of it, plus they are pricey

 

Hardwire battery pack completely recharges in about 1/2 hour
When using cigarette lighter it takes a lot longer.

 

PMP time is dependent on your battery and other variables. Hard to gauge that. On my Jeep Cherokee, it'll last all night but that had stop/start so the battery was larger than needed... On my Taco, I got maybe a couple hours at best. I eventually went with a battery pack, and it lasts about 20 hours or so.

 

Thanks i might just have to go that route, but with my short commute i was second guessing myself. I used to have an old 590 single channel in my truck that got totaled, i caught it all on tape. Im waiting on my 2020 to arrive and this will be one of my first mods for sure.

 

I literally had the exact same struggle haha. My commute is 7 minutes each way... So I usually warm-up the truck for about 10-15 minutes before I leave lol. I have a dr750s-2ch in the taco and I have a dr900s-2ch in my wife's car. Never going without a dashcam EVER again lol.

 

Just curious, Which fuse did you guys use for the constant power?

 

I tap into the cigarette fuse.
