    Hello All,

    Any help would be appreciated!

I am new to camera installs and don’t know much about it even after reading some of the posts.

I am considering installing a 2 channel camera in my Taco Sport. (I Have not picked which camera to go with yet)

I have read many threads and some of you don’t have any problems with the camera draining the truck battery. Others do. I would like my camera to go on in parking mode if motion is detected.

Do you need to install a battery pack or some extra device to make sure you truck battery doesn’t die or get drained too much.? Or can I just hook the cameras up to the battery?

Also, will it void the truck warranty?

    Thanks!

It shouldn't void your warranty at all. All you're doing is tapping into a fuse, running some cords, and sticking cameras somewhere.

I use the B-124 battery pack. Pricy but I get almost a full night out of it with a full charge. It's rated for ~18 hours. You'd save a little more if you turn of motion capture and just keep the impact detection on, I think. Your other option is to use something like the power magic pro which will use your starter battery until it reaches a voltage threshold, at which point it cuts out.

I got the DR700-2CH from blackvue. It's a nice but expensive setup, but Black Friday is around the corner, which is when I got the kit. Saved around $100 I think. My mantra is buy once, cry once, so I went with a higher end model. It'll pay for itself in one accident anyway.

There are so many dashcams on the market today it's mind boggling. I've always gone by "you get what you pay for". Cry once deal. Blackvue, Thinkware and a newcomer IROAD are good options. See "Blackboxmycar" website for a ton of info.

As to the parking lot deal is basically getting power to the unit and not draining your battery. (captain obvious) So you can have a battery pack that will give you X hours of on time, or a system that monitors your car's battery and shuts the dashcam down at a programed voltage drop or time. There's no magic bullet that will give you 100% unlimited up time. But if you just park for 4-8 hours either system can work for you. If you're parking at the airport for a week or so, you're out of luck with what's available today.

From what I recall, you can buy a Cellink, and use its XT60 port to connect to a 12V 50ah BMS LifePO4 battery.
Same 50ah can be charged on the side with a portable solar panel.

At 50ah, your camera can continue recording for a week? (Did not do the math)

I haven't heard of that model. For that price, I suppose it's worth a test. But at that price my expectations for anything that setup does are extremely low. There are similar setups that are in the $100-200 range with which others find success, but as I and another said earlier, buy once, cry once. Especially in the case of something like a dashcam, my argument is you'll want something you know will work when you need it, at which point it likely not only pays for itself by vindicating your involvement and eliminating the need to pay your deductible, but also dishing up some sweet, sweet justice to the other guy.

What do you guys think of installing the dr900s on top of the visor strip tint on my truck. Will the weight of the camera mess up the tint? I have a 5% strip and would like to put the adhesive part on the strip itself so it doesnt show as much. My last camera i had the camera right on the glass but always wanted to install it right on the tint. But been worry it would pull the tint off. Anyone done this? Thanks

Can't comment on how it will interact on the tint, but here's my thinking: it won't be good. Maybe I'm paranoid or something, but my experience with adhesive on glass has not been positive. Even if whatever I stuck on it never came off, if I ever wanted to remove or reposition it, it'd potentially be a massive headache.

I bought a metal holder/bracket thingy that attaches to the mirror stalk. Also has the advantage of fine-tuning the alignment.

It's by BlendMount. There's one in the product section below for most BlackVue cams (including mine, the 750S). It is expensive...probably because there isn't a similar mount on the market for whatever reason. But it is definitely well-made. Feels high-quality and has several points of articulation/adjustment.
