I’m new to the site. I am working on my daughters 2016. She had a failure on one of the calipers and lost a lot of fluid by the time she got to my house. There was still a little fluid in the reservoir but I am not sure how low it has to go before it starts sucking air.

I got it all back together last night with new pads, rotors, and a caliper. I went to bleed that caliper at least to start with to see what kind of pedal I had and the pedal kept going to the floor after bleeding it for a bit. Master does not look like a conventional one so I cut my losses for the night and decided to poke around on the net.

After I started it to move it out of the garage the pedal feel came back somewhat. Brakes are mushy so say the least but there is some braking.

I see that the off road has an electronic booster but I do not find clear instructions on how to bleed the master. All I see is stuff to bleed the booster by pumping and cycling the ignition or is that the same thing?

Then the bleeding instructions say to bleed the front first is that correct? I typically bleed farthest to closest.

I am primarily a Ford/Mustang guy and this is the first major thing I have had to do to her truck other than oil changes.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't have an Off-Road, but I've always done Tacoma's farthest to closest with no issue. Can't imagine off road would be any different.
I've heard that the electric boost is far easier because you can wedge a board to hold the brake down with ignition ON and the electric boost will pump the fluid for you as you bleed. Just need someone to keep the master full.
    Hopefully someone can verify.

I have changed brakes and fluid on my offroad many time. I hope you went with DOT4 fluid as it has better temp ratings and just seems to stop better to me on hot days.

like the gentleman above mentioned. Back to front. Never have bled the other booster or unit, but it is important to have the truck on so the brake pump is on when you test that pedal. Without the truck on it will go to the floor after a change…I discovered this myself

Thanks guys I got it done. I bled the booster first as per the instructions. And then I bled back to front. That electronic booster is a trip. In all the bleeding brake jobs I have done this has been the easiest. She came and picked her truck up a couple hours ago.
