The problem with the motors isn't the bearings, it's the mating between the brushes and the commutator strips (as mentioned in earlier posts). This is why anyone who has "repacked" the bearing has had the chirp return not long after.

Mine was with the bushing. If you use a good grease and fit the bottom proper it lasts for a while. I have had mine with no chirp for a while now and am very happy with this fix. (used aeroshell 33) I was afraid that it would come back now that it's colder but it's holding up very well.

Alright, I guess we will see how long it lasts. If it is silent for atleast 6months I will be happy with doing every so often to save the $150 for a new one. Took me maybe 10 minutes to do so its not that big of a deal.

I'm sitting at the dealership now while they fix mine. Just assumed I'd let them fix it under warranty while they were changing my oil.

Next time you go in there to grease the bearings take an eraser with you and polish the commutator strips too...

Yes. Filing down the brushes at a 45 degree angle. Worked like a charm...I've been squeak free for ~8-9 months now.

My 2010 has suffered from fan ticking, particularly on low, since new. This post was helpful however I simply removed the four self tap screws holding the black plastic cover to the bottom and applied two drops of 3in1 oil. So far the ticking is GONE.

I had the same problem with mine.
Fortunately it was under warranty so I had them replace it for free.
Unfortunately the warranty is up, so I better pay attention to this so when it starts squeaking again!

Hey Guys, My '06 has been making noise for awhile. I too will be under the dash during the holiday break to get the blower resistor replaced (fan runs on HIGH speed only) and grease the bushing on the motor. My plan is to use Moly grease. Molybdenum deposits itself on metal surfaces and may last longer than even top grade lithium grease...just a thought.

So thought I would post these pictures here. I took in my 05, it is still under warrenty after the blower made the noise for the second time after taking it apart and cleaning and lubing it.

I spoke to the shop guy there, he laughed and said that everyone comes in for this. The parts department keeps 7 on hand in our little town. Pathetic on Toyota's part. Anyway I didn't have time to wait for them to do it so I got the part under warrenty and installed it myself and returned the original. The shop guy said that until 2012 every "new" version still woudl make the noise after some time. He went further to state that in 2012 they changed it up and that was the only part he had seen that hadn't come back yet with the complaint. I took pictures for you all. The part number ends in (Edit: Part number from box does end in 43, 87103-04043) and you can see a difference in that you can take the houseing off by removing a nut that is visable on top.

    Enjoy,
    -Jon
