Well I was as skeptical as any when I stumbled across this thread. Greased the suggested parts today with marine grade bearing grease and cleaned up all the "bronze dust" everywhere and the chirp is gone! One day in....fingers crossed!

I will note that I did try the method of balancing or leveling the motor with the two screws to find the best spot with minimum noise a few months back and that was highly unsuccessful and frustrating!

lubricated and cleaned mine several years ago per this thread. That worked for a while but the noise came back about 6 months later. Been bugging me more and more lately so went with the new 043 model replacement route hoping the newer version has fixed the defect. So far it's been quiet. Wasn't sure the 044 would fit my '09.

Cut & broke off some stuff.
grease fixed the chirp for me. Still have a click now.
I think it's the commutator worn slightly out of round causing the brushes to bounce or slap as the motor spins. If so, I should be able to chuck the shaft up in a lathe and file the commutator surface back concentric to the shaft.

Maybe someday I'll try it or if someone else tries, let us know how it goes.

Just wanted to say that I ordered the new model motor (044) from Toyota of Dallas and it was delivered to NC in about a week. Works perfectly in my 2011! Money well spent to be rid of that awful chirping noise.

After balancing and greasing mine a few months ago the chirping came back. After a short period, the chirp turned into a squeal which led to the cabin filling with smoke.

Tinker with them at your own risk. As much as it pains me to do so, I will be dropping $150 at my local stealership for the 044 blower...

Just went to the dealership and had him pull the compatible part numbers for my 2007 Tacoma Blower unit. 044 is compatible and I will be ordering soon!

Mine should be here this afternoon. I was told it will fit my 2005. I hope to finally silence the blower motor. Will be changing out tomorrow when I visit my truck at the dealer parking lot.

On a side note it looks a little bigger then I remember..........I could be crazy though. I'll check it out tomorrow when I have my weekly conjugal visit with my truck. I have an 05 and bought 044 motor. I trust you guys on this forum as you've never let me down yet. Here's to quieter times!

This can be put to rest. It fits. Just like I was told by folks on TW. Took a grand total of 10 minutes and looks similiar with hopefully different results. Silence is golden. Duct tape is silver. 044 fits all 2nd gen models. Thanks to all. For the record I did attempt the fix before buying yet my third blower motor in 10 years.

I took mine apart the other day. I've got a 2014 and the motor makes a very slight clicking sound, like a baseball card in the spokes of a bike type of sound. It's very slight though. Here are a few pics.

Top of the motor after the fan reel is removed. There was an E clip and some washers under the fan reel.

    _EP38692.jpg

The back of the motor, this is non removable.

    _EP38694.jpg

There's a single small phillips screw that holds the actual motor to the plastic housing. After removing it you can pry the motor out of the housing with a large flat screw driver. It was pretty tight coming out.

    _EP38695.jpg

The motor. It seems pretty well sealed up. I could not disassemble any further so I just sprayed a bit of Telfon lube on each of the bronze bushings. The motor slips back into the housing much more easily than it came out. Upon re-installation it sounds the same. Maybe it's just the sound of the brushes rubbing? It's hardly noticeable really, but I was curious if I could make it better.

    _EP38697.jpg

Here you can see how the small metal tabs are bent to capture the plastic tabs of the motor end cap. I couldn't think of a good way to pry them open so I did not attempt it. You can also see the small rectangular caps that hold the brushes and their tension springs. The caps snap right off allowing brush changes. I had a bit of brush dust on the inside of the fan reel but nothing excessive.

    _EP38701.jpg

Just thought I'd post up some pics of my fan motor as it looked different than all the other pics I've seen. Maybe this is the new "improved" style?

    Weldo,
Good job on the disassembly and nice photos. What is the p/n of the blower motor in your 2014?

Man, I never even checked. Where is the number, maybe I can check without pulling it again.

Not sure, might be on the housing where you can see it when installed. No big deal, just curious if the 2014's had the -044 blower.

Just read this whole thread as our '11 has the playing-cards click and it's driving my S.O. crazy (me, I just crank up the stereo :headbang: ).
We're taking the truck in for the catalytic converter fix in a couple of weeks so I'll mention the blower then.

Assuming they don't cover it under our certification warranty, should we get the -043 or -044? Toyotapartsdeal.com says it's not compatible with the '11, supertoyotaparts.com disagrees. Anyone have a status report on the durability of the new -044 part?

Edit to add: Nope, not covered under the warranty, they wanted $300. Took a chance and ordered the -044 part.
