due to the resurfacing of the heads and the block the distance between the camshafts and crankshaft has changed

This thread makes no damn sense.

Are you asking if anyone has replaced oversized head gaskets before and asking for help?

Or are you telling people what you have done?

OP. The factory manual specs for warpage on the 4.0 are these.
    Cylinder Heads - 0.0039” max.
    Cylinder Block- 0.0020”max.

If warpage exceeds max, replace those components. Reman heads are probably all out of spec too since the manual says the parts cannot not be resurfaced. it doesn’t even give a spec.

If your head and block are within warpage spec I would just put the head back on if it is not cracked. This is if your DIYing to save cash. If not I would look for a used engine too. OR find some good condition used heads that have not be resurfaced. I’m going to do this job also on an 05 Tundra and am waiting for my straight edge to come in to check the flatness. Hopefully everything is still reusable. God bless.

Also, shims that are too thick may actually be only a temporary fix. The gasket is only supposed to seal the block and head and not actually be apart of the combustion chamber.

How much did the machine shop take off originally?

I recommend you find a replacement engine. Either a reman from a vendor with a good warranty and reputation or a used low mile original condition engine. Toyota doesn’t recommend rebuilding a warped block and cylinder heads. They don’t even give a spec.
